These are different problems with different fixes. Before changing firmware or jailbreak files, note your Kindle model and generation, its firmware version, the jailbreak method, and the exact error message; the right procedure depends on those details.
Why won’t my Kindle connect to Amazon after jailbreaking?
“Can’t connect” can mean the Kindle cannot join a Wi-Fi network, or that it has Wi-Fi but cannot register with Amazon. Start by checking whether Wi-Fi works; troubleshoot registration only after the Kindle is online.

Check the Wi-Fi connection
- On the Kindle, make sure Airplane Mode is off. Confirm the network name and password, and check that another device can connect to the same network.
- Move the Kindle closer to the router and away from likely sources of interference. Restart both the Kindle and router, wait two minutes, then try again. Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide recommends these general checks.
- If available, try connecting to a phone hotspot. If the Kindle works there, Amazon says the issue is with the original network. A public hotspot may also require you to complete a sign-in page in a browser.
Check that the router’s Wi-Fi band and security settings are compatible with your Kindle. Amazon UK states: “Kindle devices don’t support 6 GHz Wi-Fi bands. Kindle devices released before 2021 also don’t support 5 GHz and WPA3 encryption.” Router settings that work for a newer phone may not work for an older Kindle. For roaming between a router, extenders, or mesh access points, Amazon recommends using the same network name, security type, and password.

If Wi-Fi works but Amazon registration fails
Amazon lists an incorrect device time, outdated software, and incorrect account credentials among common registration problems. Check the Kindle’s displayed time and Wi-Fi connection, confirm you are using the intended Amazon account and current password, and restart the device. If you set it up with a phone, verify that the saved Wi-Fi password has not changed. If you use more than one Amazon account, test the intended credentials in a browser on another device.
Amazon’s registration troubleshooting page also recommends checking for current software. Its separate device and app registration guidance says to complete any requested verification, check spam or blocked-message settings if a code does not arrive, and confirm the Kindle appears in the Amazon account’s Devices list. The verification code described on that page is valid for 10 minutes.

Can I update a jailbroken Kindle?
Amazon documents a manual USB update when a Kindle’s automatic firmware download fails. That is an Amazon firmware procedure, not a general jailbreak repair. Before changing firmware on a jailbroken device, identify the jailbreak method and read its current instructions: firmware updates can affect the jailbreak or add-ins, and the available guidance varies by method and version. The sources cited here do not establish one safe firmware-repair sequence for every jailbroken Kindle.
Install Amazon firmware manually over USB
- On a computer, open Amazon’s Kindle software updates page and download the update file for the exact Kindle model. Do not substitute a file for a similar-looking model.
- Connect the Kindle to the computer with a USB data cable. Check that the cable’s connector fits the Kindle and that the computer recognizes it; a charging-only cable may not provide the needed data connection.
- Copy the downloaded update file to the Kindle drive, then safely eject the Kindle from the computer and disconnect it.
- On the Kindle, open Settings, tap Menu, choose Update Your Kindle, and confirm. The device should restart after the update.
Amazon advises charging the Kindle and leaving it overnight after the update so books can index. A USB cable can help with this file-transfer procedure; it will not fix a Wi-Fi connection or account-registration problem.

Is the problem a KOReader update instead?
KOReader updates are separate from Amazon Kindle firmware updates. The KOReader project’s Kindle installation guide describes different installation paths depending on firmware and jailbreak method. Its baseline assumptions include an already-jailbroken Kindle, completion of required post-jailbreak steps, blocked Kindle OTA updates, and removal of temporary filler files. Those are guide-specific assumptions, not universal steps to apply to every jailbreak.
For a manual KOReader recovery or update, the guide describes downloading the appropriate Kindle package, copying it to the Kindle’s USB root while overwriting files, and then using the relevant launcher’s KOReader update action. Settings remain if you do not delete the koreader folder. Follow the guide for the launcher and jailbreak in use; this procedure updates KOReader, not Amazon firmware.

What should you avoid changing?
Do not downgrade firmware, force-install an update, delete files, or alter OTA-blocker files based on a generic jailbreak tip. The MobileRead 5.x Jailbreak page is legacy, version-specific guidance and warns that unsupported downgrades have been reported to brick devices. Only follow a step when current instructions explicitly support your Kindle model, firmware, and jailbreak method.

What information to gather before trying another fix
- The exact Kindle model and generation, firmware version, and jailbreak method.
- The precise error message and whether the failure occurs at Wi-Fi connection, Amazon registration, Kindle firmware download, or KOReader update.
- Whether the Kindle connects to a phone hotspot or can transfer an update file over USB.
- Whether required post-jailbreak setup is complete, if the relevant jailbreak guide calls for it.
These details determine which instructions apply; a fix for one stage may not address another.
