Start by identifying which of those three symptoms you have, then use the matching fix. If only the Pro choices are missing, enable Always Display Pro Parts before buying another guitar.
Identify what “not recognized” actually means
Check the instrument-selection screen and the way the guitar behaves before changing hardware. Fortnite Festival treats these situations differently:

Pro Lead and Pro Bass are not exclusive proof that a guitar has been detected. Epic states that supported keyboard-and-mouse or standard-controller input can also play Pro parts, and guitar controllers can be used for some non-Pro parts. Conversely, a guitar that is connected but unsupported on your platform may still provide ordinary controller input.
Turn on Pro parts when the guitar is connected but options are hidden
Epic’s documented setting addresses the most common “the guitar works but I cannot choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass” symptom.

- Open the profile or settings menu.
- Choose the Game tab.
- Open the Festival section.
- Turn on Always Display Pro Parts.
- Select Apply so the change is saved.
- Return to song selection and check the available instrument parts.
Epic says Pro Lead and Pro Bass should normally be visible automatically when a supported guitar controller is connected. The setting is the manual route when they are not. If the options appear after this change, the original problem was visibility or mode selection rather than proof of a failed guitar.

If the setting is already enabled and the parts remain absent, continue with the model-and-platform checks below. Do not jump directly to buying an adapter: a setting change cannot make an unsupported model compatible, and an adapter cannot correct a hidden menu option.
When Fortnite does not detect the guitar at all
1. Confirm the complete model name
“Rock Band guitar” or “wireless guitar” is not specific enough. Write down the manufacturer, product name, console edition, and any revision or receiver included with it. Compatibility can differ between PlayStation and Xbox versions of what appears to be the same instrument.
2. Match the model to the platform
Epic’s compatibility table, dated April 2024, lists particular models rather than every guitar ever sold. It lists the PlayStation RIFFMASTER for PS5 and PS4, and the Xbox RIFFMASTER for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It also lists selected Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models for specified platforms.
That table is a dated reference, not a universal guarantee for October 2026. Fortnite updates, console firmware, Windows changes, and revised hardware can alter behavior. Use the table to identify whether your exact combination has an official compatibility basis, then check the current manufacturer guidance and current Epic support material before replacing anything.
3. Check the required receiver or adapter
Epic specifically states that the Xbox versions of the listed Rock Band 4 Fender guitars require the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 use on PC. This requirement applies to those specified Xbox guitar models; it is not a universal adapter for every guitar or every PC.

On a console, use the receiver or pairing method intended for that console edition. On PC, confirm that the receiver is the one made for the guitar and that the operating system and game are the versions covered by the compatibility information. A receiver intended for a different console family does not become compatible merely because the guitar’s connector fits.
4. Reconnect before changing game settings
- Power the guitar off and back on, then repeat its normal pairing procedure.
- Disconnect and reconnect its receiver or cable firmly.
- Remove other game controllers temporarily so you can tell which device is generating input.
- Return to Festival after the device is connected rather than changing the setting while the guitar is still offline.
These are isolation steps, not a promise that every external device will work. If the game still shows no input, the model/platform combination is the next question—not whether a Pro menu is hidden.
When the guitar appears only as a standard controller
A standard-controller profile can be a genuine connection without being a supported guitar mode. First enable Always Display Pro Parts. If Pro options then appear, use them and test a song. If they do not, compare the exact model and platform with Epic’s list.
Do not infer that every button or fret must be exposed as a guitar input simply because Fortnite receives some buttons. Epic’s support guidance says it does not test every external device, and some devices may not work with a particular console or mobile device. A device can therefore power on and send ordinary controller commands while still lacking the guitar-specific behavior needed for Festival.

Also remember that Pro Lead and Pro Bass can be selected with supported keyboard/mouse or standard-controller input. Their presence in the menu is not, by itself, a hardware certification test.

The following summary reflects Epic’s April 2024 table. “Listed” means Epic named that model and platform in that dated document; it does not promise continued support after subsequent updates.

The table does not report detection rates, failure rates, or success percentages. It names devices and platforms only. That is why “all Rock Band guitars work” is too broad a claim.

Check for the documented green-fret issue
Epic’s v42.00 update notes identify a known issue in which the green fret on guitar peripherals can stop responding during local multiplayer in Pro Lead or Pro Bass. This is a narrow input failure:
- It occurs in the local-multiplayer context described by Epic.
- It concerns the green fret, not every button or every fret.
- It affects Pro Lead/Pro Bass play, not necessarily device discovery.
If your symptoms match those conditions exactly, check Fortnite’s later release notes for a resolution and avoid treating the issue as evidence that the entire guitar is unsupported. If the guitar is absent from the game in every mode, the green-fret note does not explain that broader failure.
A historical connection workaround—and why it needs a date
During a guitar-controller connection incident on April 23, 2024, Fortnite Festival Status suggested selecting a setlist with a normal controller and then pressing the orange button on the guitar to choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass and “wake it up.” That advice was tied to that incident’s conditions.
You can try the sequence only as a dated workaround, not as a universal repair:
- Use a normal controller to choose a Festival setlist.
- At instrument selection, press the guitar’s orange button.
- Choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass if the game presents the choice.
- If nothing changes, stop repeating the sequence and return to the compatibility and settings checks.
The status post does not establish that this procedure fixes every model, platform, or later version of Fortnite. A workaround reported during one incident should not be used to justify buying an adapter or declaring a defective guitar repaired.

Use a symptom-first decision tree
When several devices are connected, it is easy to diagnose the wrong one. Use one controller at a time and classify the result:
- No buttons, strums, or menu movement: treat this as a connection, pairing, receiver, platform, or compatibility question. A Festival menu setting will not create a connection that the operating system or console does not recognize.
- Buttons work but the game offers only ordinary parts: enable Always Display Pro Parts, apply it, and return to the instrument screen. If nothing changes, verify the exact model and platform.
- Pro parts appear but one control fails: test whether the failure is limited to local multiplayer and the green fret. That pattern is the one Epic documented in its v42.00 notes.
- The guitar works in one platform version but not another: do not transfer the result between console families, PC, or operating-system versions. Epic’s table is model-and-platform specific.
Record what happens after each change. “It worked once” is not enough to establish compatibility, particularly when a workaround was tied to the April 23, 2024 incident.

Common assumptions that lead to wasted purchases
- “It has a USB or wireless connection, so it should work.” A connector describes how a device communicates, not whether Festival supports its guitar profile.
- “The Xbox adapter is a universal fix.” Epic specifies the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for the listed Xbox Rock Band 4 Fender models used with Windows 10 PCs. That does not make it a general adapter for unlisted guitars.
- “A missing Pro part proves the guitar is broken.” Epic’s first documented action is to enable Always Display Pro Parts. Pro parts can also be played with supported standard input.
- “A similar model name means identical support.” RIFFMASTER and Rock Band 4 Fender entries are separated by platform and version in Epic’s table. Check the complete product name.
- “A reviewer’s successful setup proves official support.” The GamesRadar CRKD Pro Edition report is an individual experience on PS5, not an Epic compatibility listing.
Decide whether a replacement guitar is justified
Replacement is reasonable only after you separate a software setting from a platform mismatch and an input fault. Use this order:
- Rule out hidden Pro parts. Enable Always Display Pro Parts and apply the setting.
- Identify the exact hardware. Record the model, console edition, receiver, and platform.
- Check the dated compatibility basis. See whether Epic named that exact combination, while recognizing that the April 2024 list is not a 2026 guarantee.
- Verify connection requirements. For the specified Xbox Rock Band 4 Fender models on Windows 10, confirm the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter requirement.
- Compare the symptom with known issues. A green-fret failure in local multiplayer Pro play is different from complete non-detection.
- Ask the manufacturer about unsupported or failing hardware. Epic directs external-device compatibility questions to the hardware maker.
A PDP RIFFMASTER is an example of a guitar controller Epic listed for designated platforms in the April 2024 table. That dated listing does not prove it will solve a current software issue, nor does it establish support for every platform version. Buy only after checking the exact platform and current support information.
A GamesRadar review of the CRKD Pro Edition Multi-platform guitar reported that, on PS5, turning on Always Display Pro Parts exposed Pro Guitar and Pro Bass after default modes appeared. That is one reviewer’s experience with one device, not an official compatibility statement or a universal repair step.

Epic says it does not test every external device. Its external-device guidance warns that a device may not work with a particular console or mobile device, recommends contacting the manufacturer for compatibility questions, and states that Epic Player Support does not provide technical support for external-device issues.
When contacting the manufacturer, provide the exact model, platform, Fortnite version, connection method, and the symptom category from the first table. Include whether Always Display Pro Parts is enabled and whether the guitar works outside local multiplayer. This prevents a general “Festival does not recognize my guitar” report from being mistaken for the documented green-fret issue.
Final troubleshooting checklist
- Have you established whether the guitar is absent, treated as a normal controller, missing Pro parts, or failing only on the green fret?
- Did you open Festival Main Stage → profile/settings → Game → Festival, enable Always Display Pro Parts, and select Apply?
- Did you write down the complete model and platform rather than relying on a product family name?
- Did you compare that exact combination with Epic’s April 2024 compatibility table and then check current support information?
- If you are on Windows 10 with a listed Xbox Rock Band 4 Fender guitar, did you verify the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter requirement?
- Does the problem occur only during local multiplayer Pro Lead/Pro Bass and only on the green fret?
- Are you treating the April 23, 2024 orange-button workaround as historical rather than guaranteed?
- Before purchasing hardware, have you asked the manufacturer whether your exact device and platform are supported?
The practical verdict is straightforward: missing Pro choices usually deserve a settings check first; complete non-detection requires model, platform, and connection verification; and a single-fret local-multiplayer failure should be compared with Epic’s documented v42.00 issue. No single adapter or guitar fixes all three situations.

Why does Fortnite Festival detect my guitar as a normal controller?
A connection can be real without providing a supported guitar profile. Enable Always Display Pro Parts, apply the change, and check the exact model and platform against Epic’s April 2024 list. Ordinary button input does not prove that guitar-specific parts are supported.

How do I make Pro Lead and Pro Bass appear?
From the lobby, open Festival Main Stage, then profile/settings, Game, and Festival. Turn on Always Display Pro Parts, select Apply, and return to song selection. Epic says supported guitars normally show these choices automatically.
Does a missing Pro part mean my guitar is defective?
No. Pro Lead and Pro Bass can also be played with supported keyboard/mouse or standard-controller input, and guitar controllers can play some non-Pro parts. A missing option is first a settings and compatibility question, not proof of hardware failure.
