Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your FFmpeg process is still running but the YouTube Live picture has stopped moving, first find where the freeze begins: in the source file, in FFmpeg’s local output, or only after YouTube receives the stream. That distinction determines whether to investigate the media and encoder, the outbound connection, or YouTube’s ingest settings. A reconnect can help with a temporary network failure, but it cannot make a stalled source produce new frames.
Find the point where the picture freezes
Compare the same moment in three places: the original video, FFmpeg’s local output or archive if you have one, and the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube recommends checking the encoder output, encoder errors and CPU load, then inspecting the local archive for audio or video problems. If local output is healthy but the live preview is not, investigate the outbound connection and YouTube’s ingestion path. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps outline this process.

- The original file is frozen: Test another section or player and inspect the source media. FFmpeg cannot output changing pictures from a source that has stopped advancing.
- The original moves, but FFmpeg’s local output freezes: Check FFmpeg’s decode, filter and encode errors, processing speed, and machine load.
- Local output moves, but YouTube’s preview freezes: Check stream health and dashboard messages, then test the upload connection and ingest settings.
A local archive that continues growing is useful evidence that output is being written, but it does not prove that video frames are changing. Review the actual images and FFmpeg log as well. YouTube recommends checking preview before going live and monitoring audio/video quality and archive integrity during the stream: YouTube Live streaming tips.
Check the FFmpeg loop and real-time pacing
For a local file, FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 for infinite looping. It is an input option, so put it before the corresponding -i. The -re option reads input at its native frame rate and is useful when sending a file as a live stream. See the FFmpeg documentation for these options.

'rtmp://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY'
This is an illustrative pattern, not a tested, complete production command. Replace the endpoint and key with the values shown in YouTube Live Control Room, and adapt stream mapping, codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and audio options to your media and stream configuration. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in a command example, log excerpt, screenshot or public support request.
If it freezes at the loop boundary
If the picture stalls at the same point each time the video repeats, inspect FFmpeg’s log for demuxing or decoding errors and timestamp discontinuities. Check that the file itself plays correctly across that point. The repeated timing makes the source, timestamps or loop handling worth investigating, but by itself it does not prove which one is at fault. Re-encoding may be appropriate if the source has unsuitable timestamps or stream properties; verify against the actual file and installed FFmpeg build rather than applying a generic fix.
Compare the outgoing stream with YouTube’s ingest requirements
Open the Live Control Room and look for warnings or errors about the incoming stream. Compare its actual codec, scan type, frame rate, resolution, bitrate and keyframe interval with the settings you selected. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends CBR bitrate encoding. Its guidance targets a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; the related live-stream error guidance also identifies video/audio settings, progressive video, frame rate, resolution and keyframe frequency as items to check.

At 30 fps, a two-second interval is 60 frames. At another frame rate, calculate the frame count from the interval in seconds rather than reusing 60 frames. A frozen picture alone does not establish that the GOP or keyframe setting is wrong; use dashboard messages and FFmpeg’s configuration and logs to confirm whether there is a mismatch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Separate encoder load from upload problems
Check FFmpeg’s reported processing speed and errors while the issue is happening, and watch CPU load. If the local output degrades as the machine falls behind real time, reduce processing demands or test another encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting flow also recommends testing outbound internet speed and contacting the internet provider if that test reveals a connection problem. Download speed is not a substitute for checking whether upload capacity and stability are adequate for the configured stream.
If FFmpeg logs show write failures or a dropped connection, the FFmpeg FIFO muxer supports optional output recovery settings. Its documentation includes an RTMP recovery example: FFmpeg FIFO muxer options. Recovery can help with temporary network failure, but it does not repair a stalled input, persistent connection problems or invalid ingest settings. Adapt and validate any recovery configuration against your FFmpeg version and setup; it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted continuity.
Verify the stream URL and key if the connection is rejected
A rejected or misdirected stream is different from a picture freezing after successful ingestion. If FFmpeg cannot connect or YouTube does not receive the stream, confirm the current stream URL and key in Live Control Room and enter those values in the encoder as YouTube’s stream setup guidance describes. Do not expose the key while sharing logs or asking for help.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube loop to continue without leaving your computer on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not stream from a camera.
Quick Recap
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud.
- Your video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery can restart the stream if YouTube drops the connection.
- The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account).
- The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
