If that does not restore the picture, restart the Stick, reseat its HDMI connection, test without intermediate equipment, and then refresh HDMI-CEC settings.
1. Select the HDMI input the Fire TV Stick uses
Use the TV remote’s Input, Source, or equivalent button, then choose the HDMI port where the Stick is plugged in. The TV’s selected input must match the physical port; selecting a different HDMI source will not show the Fire TV screen. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick setup instructions put it simply: “Tip: Use the remote that came with your TV to select the HDMI source or input.”

2. Restart the Stick and reseat its HDMI connection
If the correct input is selected but the screen remains blank, restart the Fire TV device. Then disconnect the Stick from the TV’s HDMI port and reconnect it securely. Both are steps in Amazon’s blank-screen troubleshooting guidance.

3. Bypass receivers, soundbars, or HDMI hubs
If the Stick connects to the TV through an HDMI hub or other equipment, connect it directly to the TV temporarily. This test helps determine whether the intermediate device or its connection is preventing the picture from reaching the TV. If you use a receiver or soundbar, also confirm that it is set to the input carrying the Fire TV signal. Reconnect your usual setup after the test.

4. Refresh HDMI-CEC settings
If the picture still does not appear, Amazon recommends cycling the Fire TV’s HDMI-CEC Device Control setting:
- On the Fire TV, open Settings > Display & Sounds > HDMI-CEC Device Control.
- Turn the setting off, then turn it on again.
- Switch the TV back to the Stick’s HDMI input and check whether the picture appears.
HDMI-CEC lets connected devices coordinate certain functions, but TV menu names and steps vary by manufacturer, model, and software. The setting may be called Anynet+ on Samsung TVs, SIMPLINK on LG, BRAVIA Sync on Sony, or EasyLink on Philips. Amazon lists these and other names in its TV HDMI-CEC guide. If your TV’s controls differ, check the manual for that model.

5. Use an HDMI extender only if the connection is awkward
An HDMI extender can help when the Stick is difficult to plug into the TV’s HDMI port. Amazon identifies an extender as an option in its Fire TV Stick HD setup guidance. It is not a fix for selecting the wrong TV input or for a failed HDMI port, so consider one only when the physical fit is the problem.
