If Fedora shows a text login instead of the graphical login or desktop, sign in at the console and check the boot target and the display manager before changing drivers or reinstalling packages. A text login means the system reached a console; by itself, it does not show that Fedora or the disk has failed.
Start with safe checks at the text login
Sign in with your usual local account and run these diagnostic commands. They inspect the boot configuration and current errors without changing system settings:

systemctl get-default
systemctl is-active multi-user.target
systemctl status gdm.service
journalctl -b -p errgdm.service is the relevant example for Fedora Workstation with GNOME, not a universal service name for every Fedora edition or spin. Identify which desktop you installed before checking its display manager. Fedora’s GNOME getting-started documentation covers graphical login and desktop use; the Fedora KDE documentation illustrates that other Fedora variants use different login-manager arrangements.

Check whether Fedora is configured to boot to text mode
Read the output of systemctl get-default. If it says multi-user.target, Fedora is configured to start in a text-oriented multi-user mode. If a graphical desktop is installed and had been working, change the default to the graphical target:
sudo systemctl set-default graphical.targetConfirm the saved setting with systemctl get-default, then reboot:

sudo rebootThis changes the target selected on subsequent boots. It does not install a desktop or repair a display manager that is failing. Do not switch to graphical.target if the system has no graphical desktop installed.

If the default is graphical, diagnose the display manager
If systemctl get-default already reports graphical.target, the boot target alone does not explain the missing desktop. Check the display-manager service for the installed Fedora edition and inspect its status and current-boot logs. For GNOME Workstation, that service is commonly gdm.service; do not enable or reinstall GDM automatically on KDE or another spin, which may use a different manager.

If the relevant service reports a failure or is inactive, use its status and journal messages to identify the error before changing packages, graphics drivers, or security settings. If the manager is active but no session appears, the problem may occur later during session startup; there is no single fix established for that case. Useful details for further diagnosis are the Fedora release, desktop edition, graphics hardware, display-manager status, and relevant errors from journalctl -b.
Use rescue media only if the installed system cannot be repaired
If you cannot use the installed system’s console or its tools are not sufficient to recover it, boot a Fedora rescue system from installation media or a USB drive. Fedora’s installation documentation on booting installation media describes that recovery route. Rescue media is optional for the target and service checks above; it is not a routine fix for a text login.
