Check the exact URL you shared, correct the Open Graph tags in the HTML that the server delivers, then submit that same URL to Meta’s Sharing Debugger and request a fresh scrape. There is no separate India-specific fix established here; diagnose the page and its image URL directly.
1. Confirm the exact URL in the Facebook post
Copy the URL as it appears in the post or sharing composer, including its path and any query string. Use that exact address for your checks. A redirect or a different URL can lead to Facebook fetching a page other than the one you intended. Open Graph’s og:url property identifies the object’s permanent URL, so check that it identifies the intended page.

2. Check the Open Graph tags Facebook can fetch
Inspect the page’s served HTML, especially the <head>, and look for og:image, og:title, og:type and og:url. The Open Graph protocol defines those four as its required basic properties; og:description is optional. The visible page and the metadata in its HTML can specify different images, so do not assume the on-page image is also the share image.
Set og:image to the URL of the image you want Facebook to use, and make sure the other identity fields describe the intended page. For example:

3. Look for duplicate image declarations
Search the final, served HTML for every occurrence of og:image. A theme, SEO plugin, page builder or another integration may emit a second value, even if you changed the setting you expected to control the preview. Open Graph permits repeating a property as an array; when values conflict, its protocol gives preference to the first declaration in document order.
- View the actual page source or server-rendered HTML, not only the editor’s settings screen.
- Find every
og:imagetag and note its order and URL. - Choose one place to manage the metadata, or ensure the intended image is declared first.
- Publish the change and inspect the served HTML again.
That documented ordering is useful when diagnosing conflicts, but it does not guarantee how every malformed or conflicting page will be handled. Verify what the debugger actually extracts.

4. Ask Meta to fetch the corrected page again
Open Meta’s Sharing Debugger, enter the exact URL used in the Facebook post, and review the extracted tags, preview, errors and warnings. After correcting and publishing the metadata, use the debugger’s option to request another scrape. It can show whether Facebook is still reading an old or competing og:image value.
Do not assume the preview will update immediately everywhere or that there is a fixed wait time. The evidence available for this guide does not establish a universal cache duration or refresh schedule.

If only a particular URL variant produces the problem, compare the address in the post with the URL and identity fields returned by the page. Do not attribute the issue to the site being hosted in India: no separate India-specific Open Graph rule is established.
