To capture a Chromium screenshot at 2×, set the device pixel ratio (DPR) to 2 in Chrome DevTools Device Mode, or use the Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) to set deviceScaleFactor: 2 before calling Page.captureScreenshot. Choose a viewport or full-page capture depending on how much of the page you need.
Capture a 2× screenshot in Chrome DevTools
- Open Chrome DevTools and turn on the device toolbar.
- Open More options > Add device pixel ratio, then select 2 in the DPR selector above the emulated viewport.
- Set the viewport dimensions and device type. Choose mobile emulation only if you want its mobile-oriented behavior as well as a 2× scale.
- Open More options > Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or choose Capture a full size screenshot to include content beyond it.
Device Mode approximates how a page looks and performs on a mobile device; it does not run the page on actual mobile hardware. Validate on a real device if device-specific rendering or behavior is central to your result. Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation

What 2× means and how to verify it
DPR is the ratio of physical device pixels to logical CSS pixels. At DPR 2, each CSS pixel maps to two device pixels in each dimension: a 400-CSS-pixel-wide viewport is nominally 800 device pixels wide. The scale relationship does not guarantee that every capture mode or image viewer will display the image at the same apparent size.

Does DPR 2 double the screenshot’s width and height?
It doubles the device-pixel dimensions relative to the CSS-pixel viewport in each dimension; for example, 400 CSS pixels wide maps nominally to 800 device pixels.

Does setting DPR to 2 also emulate a mobile device?
No. DPR controls scale. Set mobile emulation separately when you need mobile-oriented viewport behavior and related emulation.
Can I capture content outside the viewport through CDP?
Yes. Configure the capture’s beyond-viewport behavior; in the current protocol reference, captureBeyondViewport defaults to false.
