Also note how you captured it—Snipping Tool, Print Screen, or a browser-based capture workflow. A live-page problem calls for Chrome troubleshooting; a capture-only problem calls for comparing capture methods.
Identify whether Chrome or the screenshot is blank
- Reload the page and check that the address is correct.
- Open a second website in Chrome.
- If possible, open the same page in another browser.
- If the page is visible in Chrome, leave it open and take a screenshot using a different method. For example, compare Snipping Tool with Print Screen or your browser’s capture workflow.
If only one site fails while other sites work, the problem may be with that site; contact its owner. If several sites fail in Chrome, continue with the browser checks below. If the live page looks normal but the saved image is blank, skip to the capture-specific section.

Fix a blank page in Chrome
Update Chrome, then restart it
Check Chrome for updates, exit the browser fully, and reopen it. If the issue remains, restart Windows. When memory may be limited, close unused tabs and other open apps before trying again. Google recommends these steps for Chrome pages that do not load correctly: Chrome pages don’t load and Fix Chrome if it crashes or won’t open.

Open the failing page in an Incognito window. If it works there, an extension or data in your normal browsing profile may be involved. Return to a regular Chrome window, disable all extensions, then enable them one at a time and reload the page after each change. When the issue returns, the last extension enabled is a likely conflict.

Clear browsing data if extension testing does not help
Clear relevant browsing data, such as cached files and cookies, only after trying Incognito and the extension check. Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites, so make sure you can sign in again before proceeding. Google’s instructions are in Clear cache and cookies in Chrome.
Test Chrome’s hardware-acceleration setting
In Chrome, open Settings > System and turn off Use hardware acceleration when available. Restart Chrome and check the page again. Google documents this as a troubleshooting step for suspected hardware-acceleration problems: Fix hardware acceleration issues. This is reversible: if it makes no difference, return to the same setting, turn hardware acceleration back on, and restart Chrome.

Reset Chrome only if the problem persists
If Chrome remains unusable or the problem continues after the checks above, try resetting Chrome settings using Google’s reset instructions. Reinstalling is a later step, not the first one to try. Before uninstalling, consider what is stored locally in your Chrome profile and make sure important data is backed up or otherwise available. Google says information associated with a signed-in Chrome profile is saved to the Google Account, but that does not remove the need to consider local profile data.
Fix a screenshot that is blank while the page is visible
Keep the live page visible as your control and switch capture methods. If Snipping Tool produces a black or empty capture, try Print Screen or another available capture workflow. If the alternate method works, the issue is more likely isolated to the capture path than to the page’s rendering in Chrome.

When hardware should enter the picture
These symptoms alone do not establish that you need a new graphics card, monitor, cable, or repair tool. Start with browser settings, extensions, software updates, and a second capture method. Consider hardware only if separate testing or a qualified diagnosis points to a hardware fault.
