What to do before summoning the Spider Crab
The Empty Beer Can is the bait that starts the encounter, so prepare before using it. Eat first, and bring a melee weapon if you have one. PC Gamer recommends a knife for a solo attempt; another walkthrough describes a knife as a comfortable solo choice and brass knuckles as a cheaper alternative. Get and equip the Empty Beer Can
- Buy the beer and give it to the Lighthouse Keeper.
- Keep the Empty Beer Can the Keeper returns and equip it as bait.
- Fish with the can near the Lighthouse to summon the Spider Crab.
The can is the encounter trigger; the guides do not identify a gun or a particular weapon as a prerequisite. How to Fish Game Wiki’s guide describes using the can near the Lighthouse to begin the fight.
How to dodge and damage the Spider Crab
- Keep a short gap. Stay close enough to encourage the crab to charge, but leave room to move out of its path.
- Watch for its commitment. When it starts charging, move sideways rather than retreating far across the arena.
- Attack during recovery. After a missed charge, the crab briefly staggers or becomes dazed. Use that opening to land attacks.
- Disengage when it recovers. Do not keep attacking while the boss is active. Reset your spacing and invite another charge.
This charge, lateral dodge, and recovery attack is the repeatable strategy described by PC Gamer, How to Fish Game Wiki, and How to Fish Wiki. Trading hits while the crab is attacking is less controlled than waiting for its recovery window.

How to handle the escape bar
How to Fish Game Wiki’s guide, updated 2 September 2026, describes a second, white bar as an escape timer: if it expires before you record a kill, the crab leaves or the encounter resets. The guide says there is no published universal duration. Avoid extending the fight by kiting indefinitely; use each safe recovery window to deal damage.
Solo and co-op approaches

Fix common Spider Crab problems
The crab keeps jumping instead of charging
How to Fish Wiki suggests that creating too much distance may contribute to the jumping behavior. Try moving closer to encourage a charge, then sidestep when it commits.

The crab disappears before you defeat it
The September 2026 How to Fish Game Wiki guide says that an expired escape bar ends the attempt without a kill. Obtain another Empty Beer Can and summon the crab again.
You are taking damage during attacks
Shorten your attack sequence and leave as soon as the crab recovers. The safe opening is after a missed charge, not while it is moving or attacking.

Finish the quest after the kill
- Pick up the Spider Crab’s remains.
- Return them to the Lighthouse Keeper.
- Confirm that you receive the Boat Keys before leaving.
Defeating the boss alone does not complete this progression step; the remains must be handed in to the Keeper.
