What’s leaving Game Pass?
Use the official Xbox Game Pass catalog and its “Leaving soon” collection rather than relying on a saved list or an old article. Xbox presents games leaving within the next two weeks there and may offer members a discount on listed games. The catalog warns that titles, features, counts, and availability can vary by region, plan, platform, and time, so confirm that the game appears for your account and device.

How long does it take to beat this game?
Use an estimate that matches your goal, not the biggest number shown. Xbox’s PC game hubs surface HowLongToBeat community completion data. Xbox describes the choices as useful for comparing a main-story finish with a completionist run; its PC game cards have also included time estimates and leaving dates. Estimates reflect community data, not a guarantee of how long your own playthrough will take.

Build a queue you can actually finish
For each candidate, record the departure date, your finish target, the corresponding estimated hours, and the hours you can realistically play before it leaves. These are planning inputs, not an Xbox formula. There is no established universal buffer or published statistic showing how likely players are to finish before a title departs.

- Open the Xbox catalog and select “Leaving soon.” Check that each title is available on your plan and platform.
- Open the game’s details or hub in the Xbox PC app, where available, and note the leaving date and relevant HowLongToBeat information. Interface features can change, so use what the current app displays.
- Choose your finish line—main story, main story plus extras, or completionist—and record the matching estimate.
- Count the sessions you can genuinely schedule before the departure date. Compare the total time you can play with the estimate; leave room for your own pace rather than treating the estimate as a deadline guarantee.
- Order games by departure date, then favor the ones you most want to finish and can plausibly fit into your remaining time. If your shortlist exceeds your available hours, make a deliberate cut instead of spreading play across every title.
- Recheck the catalog and app notifications as the date approaches. Listings and availability can change.
What if there isn’t enough time?
Make the decision before you have spent most of the remaining time on a goal that no longer fits.
- Narrow the goal: If finishing the main story would feel satisfying, switch from a broader or completionist run to that target and use its estimate.
- Defer the game: If the remaining time is unrealistic or the game is not your priority, move on rather than turning a leisure activity into a deadline.
- Buy it to keep playing: Xbox says members may be able to buy a departing game at a discount. Check the current store listing for the exact title, price, region, and terms before relying on that option. Xbox’s November 2020 guidance also described this member discount approach.
Does cloud gaming give you more time?
No: cloud access does not guarantee that a game remains in the Game Pass catalog after its departure. Xbox announced on September 3, 2026 that monthly cloud gaming allowances would begin in November 2026: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. Xbox said the change was expected to affect 4% of subscribers. Those are announced cloud-use allowances, not game-completion estimates, and Xbox said market availability and purchase options may vary. Pricing, options for buying additional hours, eligible titles, and ways to check remaining time were still due to be detailed in November, so verify current terms with Xbox rather than assuming the announcement remains unchanged (Xbox Wire, September 3, 2026).
