A conventional ring size is not a reliable substitute: smart-ring sensors and brand-specific sizing systems can change the fit.
Why your usual ring size may not work
Smart rings are not sized consistently with ordinary jewelry or with one another. Oura says its sizes differ slightly from standard US ring sizes and can vary between generations. Samsung cautions that its built-in sensors may make your usual size a poor fit. RingConn says its sizes differ from regular rings and other smart-ring brands.

Choose the brand and model first, then use the maker’s kit for that specific model or generation. Do not rely on a conventional ring measurement, someone else’s smart-ring size, or a kit from another generation.

- Choose the model and intended finger. Test the finger and hand where you expect to wear the ring. Fingers can differ, so try another finger or the other hand if the first choice is uncomfortable. Oura recommends the index finger for accuracy and says the middle or ring finger can also work. RingConn recommends the index finger and also mentions the middle finger. Samsung advises choosing a comfortable finger.
- Get the correct sizing kit. Use the manufacturer’s kit for the exact model and generation. Oura says to match the kit to the ring generation; RingConn specifically recommends its Gen 3 kit for Gen 3.
- Put the sample on as instructed. Samsung says to wear its sizer with the indicator line facing your palm. RingConn says to position the sensor side against the finger pad. Follow the instructions supplied with your own kit.
- Check for secure comfort. The sample should feel secure without uncomfortable tightness. Oura advises a snug—not tight—fit at the base and suggests making a fist; if there is a gap over the top of the finger, try sizing down. RingConn says its sizer should stay in place without rotating. These checks are specific to those manufacturers, so use another maker’s fit guidance if it differs.
- Wear it through a full day and night. Keep the sizer on during normal activity and sleep for at least 24 hours. Samsung advises more than 24 hours. If extended wear makes the sample uncomfortable, Samsung recommends trying another size.
- Confirm the size in the seller’s order flow. Submit or finalize your selection before the ring ships, following the instructions for your purchase. Checkout steps may change, so use the current directions shown by the manufacturer or retailer.
What the manufacturers currently advise
| Brand and market | Size-system and kit guidance | Fit and wear test | How size is finalized |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oura | Oura’s support guide, last updated August 10, 2026, lists white sizers in sizes 6–13 for Oura Ring 5 and sizes 4–15 for Oura Ring 4. Oura uses whole sizes, not half sizes, and says its sizes differ slightly from standard US sizes. Match the kit to the generation. Oura’s sizing guide | Index finger is recommended for best accuracy; middle or ring finger may also work. Aim for a snug, secure fit at the base and wear the sizer for at least 24 hours, including sleep. Oura notes that the plastic sizer does not reflect the final ring’s feel or weight. | Oura’s online “Size Later” option includes a complimentary kit with a ring purchase. Many authorized retailers sell kits separately; some may offer a credit toward a later ring purchase from that retailer, so check its terms. |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring (US support guidance) | Samsung lists sizes 5–15 and recommends its own kit because sensors can affect fit. Samsung’s US sizing instructions | Choose a comfortable finger and wear the sample for more than 24 hours, including sleep. Orient the indicator line toward the palm. | In the described US purchase flow, selecting “No, I don’t know my size” adds a kit; an emailed link lets the buyer return and finalize the size. Checkout availability and steps may differ by geography. |
| RingConn | RingConn says its sizes differ from standard rings and other smart-ring brands. Its general guide describes a free sizing-kit option with a ring order and estimates kit arrival at 3–8 days depending on location. Gen 3 has its own sizing; use the Gen 3 kit. RingConn’s general size guide · RingConn Gen 3 size guide | The general guide recommends testing the index, middle, or ring finger and wearing the sizer for at least 24 hours. Position the sensor side against the finger pad; the sizer should stay secure without rotating. | The Gen 3 guide describes a free kit before shipment and size submission through My Orders. Follow the current instructions for the model you are ordering. |
Common sizing mistakes to avoid
- Ordering from a regular ring measurement alone: smart-ring sizing can differ because of sensors and brand-specific size systems.
- Using the wrong generation’s kit: Oura sizing can vary by generation, and RingConn explicitly distinguishes Gen 3 from its other rings.
- Testing only for a few minutes: a brief try-on does not replace the manufacturers’ recommendation to wear the sizer through a full day and night.
- Choosing a size based only on a quick fit: use the maker’s orientation and fit checks, and assess comfort after extended wear.
- Assuming the sample feels exactly like the finished ring: Oura specifically notes that its plastic sizer does not represent the final ring’s feel or weight.
Before you place the order
Check the chosen manufacturer’s current sizing instructions and checkout flow for your specific model, generation, and country. If a retailer supplies the kit or handles size confirmation, follow its directions and verify any kit fee or credit directly with that retailer.
