Check the navigation bar and keyboard toolbar
Look for the keyboard button
Open a text field to bring up the keyboard. Check the navigation bar for a keyboard or input button. On supported configurations, touching and holding that button lets you choose an input option, including voice input. If the button is missing, open Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default and enable Keyboard button on navigation bar. Samsung documents this route in the Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual; availability and labels can differ on other models.

Expand the keyboard toolbar
With Samsung Keyboard open, check its toolbar for the microphone. If the toolbar is absent, open Settings > Samsung Keyboard settings and turn on Keyboard toolbar. While typing, tap the three-dot Expand toolbar control to reveal additional options. Samsung lists Voice Input among the toolbar features in its US keyboard settings guide and Canadian keyboard settings guide.

Samsung voice input and Google Voice Typing are separate options. Open Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default and turn on the voice-to-text option you want to use. Then open Samsung Keyboard settings > Voice input and select the voice-input method. Samsung voice input is available only when Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard.

If a menu label differs, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard” or “Voice input,” and confirm that the active keyboard is Samsung Keyboard before following Samsung-specific directions. Samsung’s US instructions and Canadian instructions can differ by region and software version.
Finish first-use setup and check the language
The first time you use Samsung voice input, you may need to accept terms or grant requested permissions. Complete any prompt that appears. In Samsung Keyboard’s voice-input settings, check that the intended language is selected. If you want recognition to work offline, install and enable the language’s offline pack where that option is available.

What the available voice-input choices mean
- Samsung voice input: Select it in the keyboard’s voice-input settings; it is available only with Samsung Keyboard.
- Google Voice Typing: A separate voice-to-text option that can be selected in the keyboard and input settings.
The cited Samsung instructions describe how to enable these choices and check language options, but do not provide comparative accuracy or privacy evaluations.
If the microphone is still missing
- Open a text field and check both the keyboard toolbar and the navigation-bar keyboard/input button.
- If the navigation-bar button is absent, enable Keyboard button on navigation bar under Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default, if your device offers that setting.
- Turn on Keyboard toolbar in Samsung Keyboard settings and inspect its expanded controls.
- Choose a voice-input method under Samsung Keyboard settings > Voice input, then complete any terms or permission prompts.
- Check the selected language and install an offline language pack if offline recognition is needed.
If none of these checks restores voice input, note your Galaxy model, One UI version, active keyboard, and whether the navigation-bar keyboard button is enabled before contacting Samsung support. Those details help identify which instructions apply; Samsung’s guidance does not establish one universal cause for a missing microphone.
