There is no single remote code for every Yamaha receiver. To find the right one, note the receiver’s full model number and first identify which remote you’re programming: the Yamaha receiver remote to control another device, or a TV, cable, satellite, or universal remote to control the Yamaha receiver. Those are different tasks with different code lists.
First identify the receiver and the remote
Write down the receiver’s complete model designation from the unit, its label, or its documentation. Then identify the remote by its maker and model, and decide what you need it to operate. A code for a Blu-ray player programmed into a Yamaha remote will not serve as a code for a TV remote to control the receiver.

If you are programming a Yamaha remote for another device
Use the manual for your exact receiver, not a code list found for a different Yamaha model. Open its remote-control section, find the table for the type or brand of device you want to control, and follow that manual’s button sequence and input assignments.
RX-V465 example: external-component control
The RX-V465 manual instructs users to press CODE SET, select an input key, and enter a code. In that model’s instructions, the TRANSMIT indicator blinks twice when registration succeeds and six times when it fails. These steps and indicator signals apply to the RX-V465 example; do not assume another Yamaha remote uses the same sequence.

The RX-V465 manual lists 2018 as a default code for a Yamaha Blu-ray component assigned to HDMI1, and 5013 for a Yamaha CD component assigned to AV3. These are codes for operating external components with the RX-V465 remote—not codes for programming a TV or universal remote to operate the RX-V465 receiver. If you are programming another brand’s remote to control the Yamaha receiver
Use the remote maker’s instructions for that remote’s model. Look for its Yamaha receiver or audio/video receiver device-code list, or use its documented code-search procedure if it offers one. The Yamaha manual library explains Yamaha-side remote procedures, but it does not establish a code that works across every third-party remote and Yamaha receiver combination.

Before setup, decide which functions matter: power, volume, mute, input selection, or some combination. After entering a code or completing a documented search, test those functions individually. A remote may operate some controls without supporting every function you need.

- Check that the code is for the correct task: controlling an external device with a Yamaha remote, or controlling the receiver with another brand’s remote.
- Confirm that you have the exact receiver model and the exact make and model of the remote, then repeat the setup using that remote’s own instructions.
- If the Yamaha manual lists multiple suitable codes, try another listed code. Yamaha’s RX-Z11 manual notes that a Yamaha component may not operate even when a listed Yamaha code is preset, and recommends trying another Yamaha code. That is model-specific guidance, not a universal guarantee.
- Retest the functions you need after each attempt rather than assuming that a successful code entry means every button will work.
If the original Yamaha remote is missing
A replacement remote matched to the receiver’s exact model may be an option. Before buying, verify that the listing names your model and confirms support for the functions you need. Compatibility and supported controls were not established for any particular replacement here; consult the model information in Yamaha’s manual library when checking a candidate.
