Use your height to narrow the options, not to choose a jeans inseam by itself. For the most reliable starting point, measure a pair that fits the way you want, then check the inseam options and size chart for the exact jeans style. Your preferred hem—full-length, ankle or cropped—also matters.
What jeans inseam means
Inseam is the length along the inside leg. On your body, it runs from the crotch area toward the ankle; on a pair of jeans, it runs from the crotch seam to the hem. A listed inseam describes the garment, so it may not match a body measurement exactly.

How to measure an inseam
Measure jeans that already fit
- Lay the jeans flat and smooth the inside leg without stretching the fabric.
- Measure from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem.
- Use that length as a reference when comparing the product’s available inseams. This is especially useful if you like where the hem falls on that pair.

Keep the tape along the inside of your leg. Levi’s U.S. guide measures from the top of the inner thigh to the bottom of the ankle, while its Singapore guide describes measuring the inside leg from crotch to ankle. Use height as a starting estimate
Height-based guidance can help you shortlist lengths, but it is not a universal conversion. For example, Levi’s Singapore’s women’s bottom size chart suggests these inseams:

These are suggestions from that brand’s Singapore chart for women’s bottoms—not population statistics or a rule for all brands, markets or fits. Choose for the hem you want
The right length depends on the intended style as well as your proportions. A full-length jean and an ankle or cropped jean are designed to finish at different points. Rise, cut and footwear can also affect how a hem appears, so do not assume one inseam will create the same break on every pair.

- Compare the measured inseam of a pair you like with the actual lengths listed for the new jeans.
- Check the chart for the exact style, category and market; do not assume that a height label maps to the same garment length across products.
- Decide whether you want full length, ankle length or a crop before selecting among available inseams.
- Use the listed garment inseam as a guide, not a promise of a particular break or hem on your body.
