Treat directories as discovery tools, not proof that a program is accepting applications: verify current openings, eligibility, pay, schedule and credentials with the sponsor or school.
Search for semiconductor apprenticeships by location and occupation
Start with the federal Apprenticeship.gov Apprenticeship Finder. Search by city, state or ZIP code, and try several role names because sponsors may list training under an occupation rather than the semiconductor industry.

A registered apprenticeship generally combines paid on-the-job training with related classroom instruction, but specific terms vary by sponsor and employer. Follow any promising result to the sponsor’s official page and confirm that it is active and accepting applicants. The U.S. Department of Labor describes apprenticeship as an employer-driven pathway that includes paid work experience, classroom instruction and a portable credential; that overview does not establish the terms of an individual listing (Department of Labor apprenticeship overview).
Check semiconductor-specific and regional resources
SEMI career and apprenticeship resources
SEMI’s workforce development page links to the SEMI Career and Apprenticeship Network (SCAN), a career portal and other workforce initiatives. Use them to identify roles and organizations, then confirm details with the employer or program owner.
#1 Best Overall
On January 20, 2026, SEMI announced that the U.S. Department of Labor had approved the SEMI Foundation as a national apprenticeship sponsor. The Foundation said it would work with employers to design and register programs and coordinate with regional education and workforce partners. Its announcement said eligibility, timelines and engagement details would be shared later, so sponsor status alone does not mean a local apprenticeship is open (SEMI Foundation announcement, January 20, 2026).
The SEMI Foundation workforce site also describes SEMI Apprenticeships, industry-recognized credentials and SEMI University technical education. Check the specific program or course page for enrollment status, prerequisites and location.
Rank #2
Community and technical colleges
Colleges may offer technician courses, related instruction, credentials or employer-linked pathways. The American Semiconductor Academy initiative describes a network connecting colleges and universities with semiconductor employers through hands-on training, apprenticeships, internships and research experiences (American Semiconductor Academy Initiative). Contact a nearby college’s semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, mechatronics or workforce office and ask which pathways are active, who can apply and how referrals work.
Employer career pages
Search official career pages for nearby semiconductor manufacturers, chip-equipment and materials suppliers, and other supply-chain employers. An Intel announcement dated July 15, 2024 described a manufacturing-facility technician apprenticeship and community-college pathways, including Quick Start and mechatronics certificates in selected states. It is a dated example, not evidence of a current opening; check Intel’s live careers listings for present availability (Intel announcement, July 2024).
Can high school students do an apprenticeship?
Yes, depending on the program. Department of Labor guidance says registered apprenticeships can begin in high school, community college or dual enrollment, including through career and technical education (CTE). Students may take related courses while meeting high-school requirements, but work schedules and eligibility are program-specific. Ask a school counselor, CTE coordinator or community-college partner which local options are available (Apprenticeship for Young People).
For semiconductor student programs, ask colleges and employers about internships, technician training, research experiences and dual-enrollment pathways. A program described by a national network may be planned or limited to partner schools; confirm that it is currently running and whether students from outside those partners may apply.

How to compare programs when you find more than one
Compare like with like using the official listing or a direct answer from the program owner. A useful comparison should cover location, schedule and shift, paid work and wage progression, age and student eligibility, prerequisites, classroom instruction or college credit, duration, credential, partner organizations and application deadline. There is no single national template that determines every employer or student arrangement.
Apprenticeship.gov reports broad national apprenticeship figures, including more than 800,000 apprentices annually. It also reports an $86,000 average starting salary after completion and 93% employment retention after completion, attributing salary and retention to Kansas Department of Commerce CRIS and RAPIDS data retrieved December 31, 2025. Its reported $300,000-plus lifetime earnings advantage is based on a 2012 Mathematica Policy Research study for the U.S. Department of Labor. These figures describe apprenticeships broadly, not semiconductor-specific results or a promise about any one program (Apprenticeship.gov).
The SEMI Foundation’s workforce site estimates a global need for 2.6 million workers by 2030 across engineering, manufacturing, research and technical roles. It also reports activity across its awareness, career and upskilling programs, National Network for Microelectronics Education and ChipPath platform. Those organization-reported reach and platform figures describe workforce initiatives; they do not establish that a particular listing is an active entry-level job or that a local apprenticeship is available (SEMI Foundation workforce programs).
