One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo find U.S. crypto-related SEC and CFTC records, start with the SEC’s crypto enforcement index for SEC matters and the CFTC’s searchable Press Releases index for CFTC announcements. Then open the underlying complaint, order, rule, or other primary document: an index entry or press release is a way to find a record, not proof of an allegation or a final legal outcome.
Find SEC crypto enforcement actions
- Open the SEC’s Enforcement Actions index under its Cyber, Crypto Assets and Emerging Technology materials.
- Look in the Crypto Assets section and use the listed action names and filing dates to locate a matter. The index links to individual records; it also has a separate Trading Suspensions section.
- Open the matter page and follow its links to the complaint, order, or other underlying case material. Check the document itself for the parties, allegations, procedural stage, and disposition.
- Check for later updates on the individual matter page and in SEC news or action records. The index says it was last reviewed or updated April 24, 2025, so it may not reflect later developments.
Search CFTC announcements and follow the primary record
- Go to the CFTC’s Press Releases page.
- Search by a topic, company, token, or conduct term. The page provides filters for keyword, press release type, release number, tag, and year.
- Note the release date and number, then open the announcement and follow its links to any order, court filing, proposed rule, final rule, or staff FAQ.
- For an enforcement matter, use the linked primary material to identify the case number, filing date, what the agency alleged, and the latest procedural status.
The Press Releases page is a general announcement index, not a verified complete crypto enforcement docket. It is a useful search route, but do not assume a search there captures every CFTC matter.

SEC and CFTC joint interpretation
The SEC issued a joint interpretive release with the CFTC on March 17, 2026; it became effective March 23, 2026. The SEC’s release page identifies it as an interpretive release, while the CFTC-hosted Federal Register text provides the primary document. It addresses how federal securities laws apply to crypto assets and transactions, including protocol mining, protocol staking, wrapping, and airdrops.
Read it as the Commission’s interpretation and views, not as a replacement for the governing legal test. The release says: “The interpretation in this release does not supersede or replace the Howey test, which is binding legal precedent.” It discusses how aspects of that test apply; it does not make a universal classification that can be inferred from one asset, activity, or enforcement case.

SEC Division of Corporation Finance FAQs
The SEC Division of Corporation Finance’s crypto-asset FAQs were updated September 28, 2026. The page says the FAQs represent staff views, are not a rule or regulation, have no legal force or effect, and create no new obligations. Use them as staff explanation, not as Commission-approved rules or a substitute for the underlying law and applicable Commission materials.
CFTC proposed and staff materials
The CFTC Press Releases index listed an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking relating to crypto asset transactions and markets on October 5, 2026, as well as updated FAQs concerning registrants and crypto assets dated September 24, 2026. A proposed rulemaking invites comment; it is not a final rule. Staff FAQs are also distinct from Commission rules or orders. Open each linked document and verify its status and dates before relying on it.
Tell rules, guidance, announcements, and cases apart
Government pages can point to documents with very different legal and procedural status. Identify the document type before drawing a conclusion:

|---|---|---|
| Enforcement complaint or filing | Claims or allegations made in a proceeding. | Whether a court has ruled, the case remains pending, or a later order changed its status. |
| Order or court decision | An agency or court action with a specific scope and procedural effect. | Who issued it, what it decides, and whether it is final or subject to further proceedings. |
| Final rule | A rule adopted by the agency. | Publication, effective date, scope, and any later amendment or stay. |
| Proposed rule or advanced notice of proposed rulemaking | A proposal or request for public input. | Comment period and whether a final action followed. |
| Interpretation | The Commission’s view on how law applies to described issues. | Its exact text, effective date, and how it relates to binding statutes and precedent. |
| Staff FAQ | Staff explanation or views. | Whether the page disclaims legal force or new obligations, and whether a Commission action governs the issue. |
| Press release or index entry | A discovery aid or agency summary of an event. | The linked underlying document and the current status of the matter. |
When describing enforcement records, use verbs that match the source: an agency “filed” a complaint or “alleged” conduct; a court “held” or “dismissed” only if its decision says so; a matter is “settled” only if the record establishes a settlement. A listing or announcement alone does not establish the truth of allegations or a final outcome.

Compare SEC and CFTC records without conflating them
For each item, record the agency, document type, status, date, and scope. Include the release number or docket/case number when available, and distinguish the issue date from an effective date or filing date. A record concerning one party or crypto activity does not by itself establish how every other asset or transaction is treated. Agency authority and the governing statute also matter; do not assume an SEC document and a CFTC document answer the same legal question.
Litigation and agency materials can change. Cite and review the individual primary record, and note the date you checked its status when reporting on a developing case.
