For Houston road incidents, closures, cameras, and roadway flood information, start with Houston TranStar’s traffic map. For broader city emergencies and protective actions, use AlertHouston. For bus and rail delays or detours, check METRO’s alerts page. These are separate services, so choose the one that matches what is affecting your trip.
Where can I check Houston traffic right now?
Houston TranStar is the primary official source for regional roadway conditions. Its traffic map includes information such as incidents, stalled vehicles, high water, ice, closures, construction, cameras, message signs, weather radar, speeds, and travel times.

Turn on the map layers you need
- Open the Houston TranStar traffic map.
- Enable the relevant layers for incidents, road closures, construction, cameras, high water or ice, weather radar, or roadway flood-warning information.
- For additional trip planning, use the map’s links to route building, speed charts, speeds, and travel times.
Not every layer will be useful for every trip. For example, check cameras or speeds to assess a route, and look for high-water or flood-warning information when heavy rain may affect roads.
Other TranStar options
The Houston TranStar portal lists a mobile-friendly website, incident and closure reports, camera views, traffic alert emails, RSS feeds, social feeds, and roadway flood-warning maps and dashboards. TranStar describes its tools as free and offers a web map and iOS and Android apps.

Where can I find Houston road closures and emergency updates?
For roadway closures, use TranStar’s map and its incident and closure information. When an event also affects public safety beyond the roadway—such as a broader city emergency—check AlertHouston as well. Houston OEM says AlertHouston provides current conditions, expected impacts, and protective actions.
Sign up for AlertHouston
Houston OEM says residents can register to receive alerts by email, text, or voice call. AlertHouston is also available through the Everbridge app. Use it for city emergency information; it is not a substitute for TranStar’s roadway map.

Roadway traffic reports do not replace transit service information. For bus and rail disruptions, check METRO’s alerts and detours page, which covers service delays, interruptions, changes, and detours. METRO also points riders to the RideMETRO app and social channels.

What to know about update timing and coverage
The agencies’ pages describe their information channels, but they do not establish a shared update-delay standard or guarantee that every incident will appear. The sources reviewed also do not give a completeness rate for reports. Check the live agency channels for current conditions, and avoid assuming that an unlisted incident means a route is clear.
