To find your FTP details in Hostinger, sign in to hPanel, open Websites, select Dashboard beside the PHP or HTML website you want to manage, and then choose Files → FTP Accounts. The FTP Access card shows the host or server IP, the username, and the directory for that site. Hostinger also lists the main FTP hostname, username, and upload path under Plan Details. The details are specific to the website or account you select, so check that selection before you copy anything.
Where to find the FTP details in hPanel
- Sign in to hPanel and open Websites.
- Select Dashboard beside the PHP or HTML website you want to manage.
- In the sidebar, open Files → FTP Accounts.
- Read the FTP Access card for the website or additional account you selected. Copy the host or server IP, the username, and the directory shown.
This route applies to custom PHP and HTML sites on web and cloud hosting. If your site or plan does not offer FTP, the card will not give you usable values; see the section on availability below.

What each field means
- Host or server IP: the address your FTP client connects to. Hostinger describes it as the FTP IP or server address.
- Username: unique to the website or additional FTP account. Two sites on the same hosting plan can have different usernames.
- Port: Hostinger’s instructions list port 21 for plain FTP.
- Directory: the folder your files must go into. For the primary root domain this is
public_html. With multiple websites or additional FTP accounts, use the directory shown for that specific account, because it can be different.
Finding the same details under Plan Details
If you prefer a plan-level view, Hostinger’s guide to plan details states that the main FTP hostname, username, and upload path also appear under Plan Details. Use this view for the primary account. For a secondary website or additional FTP account, the FTP Accounts page remains the more reliable source because the values are tied to that account.
When FTP is not available
Hostinger’s guidance names three situations where the standard FTP route does not apply. Confirm which one matches your setup before troubleshooting a connection.
#1 Best Overall
- Websites made with Hostinger AI Builder do not support FTP.
- Agency hosting does not support plain FTP and offers SFTP only.
- SFTP is available on Premium or higher hosting plans. On lower plans, SFTP is not offered by this guide’s description, so check your plan’s features before expecting it.
FTP, SFTP, or File Manager
The practical choice is between an external FTP or SFTP client and Hostinger’s browser-based File Manager. Hostinger describes SFTP as encrypting data during transmission, while the plain FTP setting in its FileZilla example is not encrypted.
| Method | Needs an external client | Encrypted transfer | Where it is available |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain FTP (port 21) | Yes, such as FileZilla | No. Hostinger’s example uses “Only use plain FTP” | Custom PHP and HTML sites on web and cloud hosting; not on AI Builder sites or Agency hosting |
| SFTP | Yes | Yes, per Hostinger’s description | Premium or higher plans; the only protocol on Agency hosting. Port not stated in this guide |
| File Manager | No, runs in the browser | Not stated in this guide | Available as a built-in tool; Hostinger’s upload guide describes it as suitable for files under 100 GB |
Choose plain FTP only when your plan lacks SFTP and your network is trusted. If your plan supports SFTP and you are transferring login details or sensitive files, use SFTP.

If you do not know the FTP password
The dashboard does not display the FTP password, so you cannot recover the old one from hPanel. Set a new password instead.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

- Confirm that the selected website or account is the one you need to change.
- Select Change FTP Password, enter the new password, and save it in a password manager or other secure place.
- Update the saved password in your FTP client and reconnect.
Changing the FTP password for the main domain also changes the SSH password to the same value. If you use SSH for that site, update your SSH client too, or your next login will fail.
Connecting with FileZilla
- Open FileZilla and create a new site entry.
- Enter the host or server IP from the FTP Access card in the host field.
- Enter the username from the same card and the FTP password you set.
- Enter port 21 for plain FTP. In the encryption setting, Hostinger’s example uses Only use plain FTP.
- Connect and upload into the directory shown on the card. For the primary root domain, that is
public_html.
If your plan supports SFTP, use the SFTP option in your client and the connection details Hostinger shows for SFTP in the same FTP Accounts area.
If the connection fails, the most common causes are the wrong account selected on the dashboard, a password reset that was not updated in the client, or a site type that does not support FTP.
