A curved ultrawide earns its desk space when one wide panel can replace a two-monitor setup or fill your peripheral view in games. Whether it fits your setup depends on three things: the format (a 34-inch 21:9 or a 49-inch 32:9 panel), whether your computer can drive that resolution at the refresh rate you want, and whether your laptop needs power, video, or peripheral sharing through the monitor. The models below are grouped by use case. Every figure is a manufacturer-published specification, not a result from independent lab testing, so treat the rankings as a shortlist rather than a verdict.
Who a curved ultrawide suits
A curved ultrawide is most useful in three situations. In games, the wider image adds horizontal field of view without the stacked-bezel gap of a multi-monitor array. In productivity, it gives you room to keep a document, a browser, and a chat window open side by side. For people who split time between a laptop and a desktop, a monitor with a USB-C input and a shared keyboard and mouse can replace a separate dock and a second display.

It is a weaker choice if you mainly play games that do not support ultrawide aspect ratios, if your desk is shallow, or if you switch between many single-window apps and rarely use split layouts.

- Desk width and depth. Measure the horizontal space the screen will occupy, not just the diagonal. A 49-inch 32:9 panel is far wider than a 34-inch 21:9 panel, and the stand footprint matters on shallow desks.
- Viewing distance. Curvature is labeled in radius terms. Samsung lists its 1000R models with a 1000 mm curve radius, which is intended to match a fixed seated distance. If you sit farther back or closer than the design assumes, the curve feels less natural.
- Graphics output. Confirm that your graphics card or integrated graphics has a port that carries the resolution and refresh rate you want. A 3440 × 1440 panel at 100Hz asks far less of the GPU than a 49-inch 5120 × 1440 panel at 240Hz.
- Laptop port compatibility. If you plan to charge or connect a laptop over USB-C, check your laptop’s own specification for the power and video modes it supports.
34-inch 21:9 or 49-inch 32:9
The two dominant formats solve different problems. Pixel counts are arithmetic from the listed resolutions, which shows how much more the 49-inch format asks of the graphics hardware.

- 1ms MPRT: Colors fade and illuminate instantly with a 1ms response time, eliminating ghosting and piecing together precise imagery during action-packed scenes and gaming.
- Luminous Backcover Lights: A colorful LED light illuminates the back cover of the monitor, delivering a uniquely modern design.
- WQHD Resolution: At 5 million pixels, Wide Quad HD Resolution (3440 x 1440) display resolution provides you with the next level of refined, and detailed picture over the current 1080P standard.
- 21:9 Ultrawide: See more and do more with an ultrawide monitor. 21:9 provides you with 30% more screen space versus the conventional monitor. With an ultrawide resolution of 3440 x 1440, expand your performance and productivity.

What the specifications establish, and what they do not
Resolution and refresh rate
Resolution sets how much detail fits on the screen. Refresh rate sets how many times per second the image updates. They are independent. The 34-inch models in this guide list 3440 × 1440, but their refresh rates differ: the Samsung ViewFinity S65UA and the LG 34WR55QC-B are listed at up to 100Hz, the LG 34U601B-B at 120Hz, and the LG UltraGear 49GR85DC-B at 240Hz.
Adaptive sync
FreeSync is listed on the Samsung S65UA and LG 34WR55QC-B, and the LG 34U601B-B is listed with AMD FreeSync Premium certification. Adaptive sync matches the monitor’s refresh to the frame rate your graphics card produces, which reduces tearing. The listings confirm the feature exists on those models; they do not measure how well it performs.
Response time claims
The listed response times are 5ms for the Samsung S65UA and 1ms for the LG UltraGear 49GR85DC-B. Response time is measured under manufacturer conditions, and the two numbers are not directly comparable. Motion clarity and input lag need independent measurement, which these listings do not provide.
HDR labels
Samsung lists HDR10 on the S65UA, and LG names VESA DisplayHDR 1000 in the title of the 49GR85DC-B. A certification label describes the manufacturer’s test target. It does not guarantee how bright or contrasty highlights will look in your room or in a specific game.

Best for gaming
LG UltraGear 49GR85DC-B
This is the only model in the set with a 240Hz listed refresh rate and a 1ms listed response time, and it is the widest format here. Choose it when a 49-inch desk is available and high refresh is the priority. Its listing does not state an adaptive sync technology, so check that before you pair it with a graphics card.

For a 34-inch screen with a listed 120Hz refresh and AMD FreeSync Premium certification, this is the strongest gaming-oriented option in the 34-inch class. Its listing is from LG Canada, so confirm local availability before planning around it.
LG 34WR55QC-B
At a listed 100Hz with FreeSync, this model suits players who want a 34-inch curved screen with a height and tilt stand. It is also a reasonable mixed-use pick because of its USB-C power delivery.

Best for productivity
LG 34BQ65VA
This is the most fully specified productivity option in the list. Its built-in KVM lets one keyboard and mouse control two computers, and its picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture modes show two inputs at once. The up-to-90W USB-C power delivery is the highest figure among the cited models, which matters for laptops with demanding charging requirements.
Samsung ViewFinity S65UA
Samsung’s US listing presents this model for productivity, including picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture modes and USB-C connectivity. Samsung states that the 100Hz refresh rate provides “smoother, silkier mouse sensitivity for enhanced productivity.” That is manufacturer language rather than an independent finding, but it explains why the refresh rate is listed as a productivity feature here.
Samsung ViewFinity S95UC (49-inch)
Samsung presents this 49-inch 1000R curved 32:9 monitor primarily for panoramic productivity, with gaming as a secondary use. Choose it when a single wide screen should replace two monitors. Its cited listing does not state resolution, refresh rate, or port details, so confirm those on the current product page before buying.

Best for both
If one monitor must handle serious gaming and daily work, the Samsung S65UA and LG 34WR55QC-B are the most balanced 34-inch options, with listed 100Hz refresh and FreeSync. The LG UltraGear 49GR85DC-B is the choice when gaming is the main use and the desk can accommodate a 49-inch panel. Choose the LG 34BQ65VA instead if the monitor must act as the hub for a laptop and a desktop.

A USB-C input on a monitor can carry video, data, and power in one cable, but the three functions have separate limits. Each listed wattage is a maximum the monitor can supply, and your laptop must accept that power level. The 65W figure on the LG 34WR55QC-B and the 90W figure on the LG 34BQ65VA are the highest-value differences between otherwise similar 34-inch models.
Two features reduce desk clutter in different ways. A KVM switch shares one keyboard and mouse between two computers. Picture-by-picture shows two inputs side by side, and picture-in-picture places a smaller second window over the main image. The LG 34BQ65VA lists all three. The Samsung S65UA and LG 34WR55QC-B list picture-by-picture, and the S65UA also lists picture-in-picture.
Before you rely on USB-C for a laptop, confirm three points: the laptop accepts the monitor’s power and video mode, the cable carries the signal you need, and whether a separate dock is still required for additional ports.
Price and availability
Prices, stock, and retailer availability for these models were not established in the sources used here, so no value ranking is offered. The LG 34U601B-B listing comes from LG Canada, and the other listings are from US manufacturer pages. Check current prices in your own country through the manufacturer’s regional store or a local retailer before buying, and confirm that the exact model number matches the listing.
