To see songs your Pixel has identified, open the Now Playing app and tap History. You can search the list, filter by date or time, and favorite, remove, share, or open a song in a connected music service.
Find Now Playing history
- Open the Now Playing app on your Pixel.
- Tap History to view songs the phone recently identified. Google’s current instructions describe this app as the home for Now Playing; the feature moved out of Settings. Google Pixel Phone Help
If the app is missing, search for Now Playing in the Play Store and install the app published by Google. Google says it can take up to 24 hours after download for use to start.

Search, filter, and manage songs
In History, search for a song or narrow the list with filters such as date and time. To manage an entry, swipe left on it or open its More menu.

- Favorite: Save a song to the separate Favorites list in the app.
- Remove: Delete a song from the History list.
- Share: Send the song to someone using an available sharing option.
- Open in a music service: Open the song in a connected service, if available.
To connect a service, go to Now Playing app > Settings > Connected music service. Google notes that a preferred service may not be available. Older instructions describe opening Favorites from the History screen.
History is different from the lock screen
The lock screen can identify a song playing nearby, but it is not the same as the History list of previously identified songs. To show nearby-song information on the lock screen, Google’s current instructions give this path: Wallpaper & style > Lock screen > More lock screen settings > Now Playing. Why Now Playing history may be blank
- You just installed the app: Google says activation can take up to 24 hours after download.
- The song was not identified: History contains songs the phone recognized; it is not a complete record of everything heard nearby, and not every song will necessarily appear.
- Setup is still completing: Google’s legacy setup guidance says to enable identification of nearby songs and allow the song database to download. It recommends keeping the phone charged and connected to Wi-Fi during setup.
- You are following an old menu path: Google says Now Playing moved from Settings to the Now Playing app. Open that app and tap History instead.
Google describes identification as using an on-device music library. If the phone does not recognize a song from that database, the app may send a short digital audio fingerprint to Google for cloud matching or additional song details. Google says raw audio and background conversations are not sent. If usage and diagnostics sharing is enabled, counts of recognized songs and some recognition-performance information may be shared. Google also says Pixel 4 and later, including Fold, use federated analytics to help identify popular songs by region; this is distinct from uploading raw audio.
