To use a Minecraft seed, enter it in the seed field when creating a new world. Bedrock Edition also has an in-game Seed Picker for choosing suggested worlds. The exact options depend on edition and version, so check the seed listing against the game you play.
Where do I enter a Minecraft seed?
Seeds are entered during world creation, not into an existing world to change its terrain. The menu route differs by edition.

Bedrock Edition
- Open Minecraft and choose Create New, then Create New World.
- Open Game in the world settings. This is the route given in the official Seed Picker FAQ.
- Type the seed in the box beside the Seed field, or open Seed Picker and select a suggestion.
- Before creating the world, compare the seed listing’s edition and game-version notes with your own game.
Minecraft describes Seed Picker as a Bedrock-exclusive feature that offers seeds intended to spawn the player in or very near the named biome or feature. Its FAQ also notes that the picker was updated in connection with the major world-generation changes in Caves & Cliffs Part II.
Java Edition
Create a new world and enter the seed in the world-creation settings. Menu labels and layout can vary by platform or game version; use the current Java interface rather than assuming Bedrock’s exact menu route applies.

How do I use the same seed on Java and Bedrock?
Mojang’s Bedrock 1.18.30 release notes, published April 19, 2022, document signed 64-bit seeds from -9223372036854775808 to 9223372036854775807 and state that numeric seeds could be used between Bedrock and Java to produce the same world. The notes also say that non-numeric inputs in Bedrock’s seed UI produce the same seeds as Java Edition. See the Bedrock 1.18.30 release notes.
Treat that as a statement about the versions described in those release notes, not a guarantee that every later Java and Bedrock version will place all terrain, structures, or other features identically. For a useful comparison, enter the same numeric seed, then make sure both worlds use the intended edition and game version before judging the result.

Does the Minecraft seed work on my version?
Version matters because world-generation rules can change. For example, the official Java Edition 1.18 notes describe a new random number generator for Overworld generation. A seed listing made for a different release may therefore not match what you see, even if you enter the same number.

- Check the game version named by the listing and compare it with the version used to create your world.
- Confirm the platform and current menu labels; official Minecraft materials describe Java for Windows, Mac, and Linux, while Bedrock is available across PC, console, and mobile platforms. See the official edition guide and PC edition page.
- If sharing results, include the edition and game version alongside the seed so others can reproduce the setup.
When the version or edition is missing from a seed listing, its exact match in your world is not established. Try it in a new world and compare the result rather than assuming the listed coordinates or features will carry over.
