To find and finish Skyrim quests, use the in-game Quest menu to select an objective and show it on the map, then follow that quest’s prerequisites rather than assuming every quest can be started in any order. For a completionist run, first decide what “every quest” means for your edition: the main game, official add-ons, Anniversary Edition content, repeatable radiant tasks, and mods are different scopes, and there is no single authoritative total across them.
First decide what counts as “every quest”
A completion checklist is only useful once you define its boundaries. A list limited to named quests in the base game will not necessarily include official add-ons, Anniversary Edition content, repeatable faction work, or mod-added quests. A journal that shows your current objectives is useful for playing, but it is not a universal audit of every possible quest.

Check which edition and content you have
Bethesda describes the full Anniversary Edition as including the core game, all three official add-ons—Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn—and Creation Club content. The Anniversary Upgrade is different: it is for people who already own Skyrim Special Edition and requires that game. These distinctions establish the official content you can include in your checklist; they do not establish coverage of every mod or user-created quest.
Write your scope at the top of your checklist. For example, specify whether you mean named quests in the main game and official add-ons, whether Anniversary Edition content counts, and whether repeatable tasks or mods are included. That prevents an unclear “100%” goal from turning into an unfinishable promise.

Follow the main quest’s ordered progression
The main story has a defined sequence rather than a set of freely interchangeable objectives. Prima Games’ main-quest guide organizes 20 quests across three acts and records prerequisites between them. Use its sequence as the progression map; do not treat every listed entry as mandatory for the same outcome.
Account for the optional and conditional entries
- Paarthurnax: The guide marks this quest as optional after “Alduin’s Bane.” Decide whether your checklist counts optional main-story quests before you judge your run complete.
- Season Unending: This quest is conditional. It occurs if the Civil War is still unresolved; it is not a universal step for every playthrough.
When following a quest sequence, check the stated prerequisite before trying to start a later quest. If the next objective is unavailable, return to the earlier quest in the sequence and confirm that its required objective has been completed.

Find side quests without assuming they share one order
Many side quests can be started early or completed at leisure, but some have prerequisites. Treat each quest as its own entry: note where you found it, what must happen first, and whether it belongs to a named questline or is a separate quest. Do not assume that finishing one broad category—such as faction quests—automatically unlocks every other quest.

Check known prerequisite chains
- “The Wolf Queen Awakened” follows “The Man Who Cried Wolf.”
- “No One Escapes Cidhna Mine” follows “The Forsworn Conspiracy.”
These examples show why a completionist should record prerequisites rather than relying only on a list of quest names. If a quest is not available, check for a preceding quest or condition before concluding it is missing from your edition.
Use the Quest menu to work through the next objective
- Open the in-game Quest menu and review the quests and objectives in your journal.
- Toggle the quest or quests you want active. If your map is cluttered, leave only the objective you are pursuing active.
- Select the objective and use Show on Map to locate it.
- Complete the objective, then check the journal for the quest’s next step or for a prerequisite that remains unfinished.
This is a practical way to navigate the quests currently recorded in your journal. It does not prove that you have discovered every quest in your chosen scope, so use a separate checklist for a full completion run.

Some factions have a named questline as well as radiant or repeatable assignments. Count them separately in your checklist. For example, Prima Games’ College of Winterhold coverage distinguishes the College questline from radiant work such as “Valuable Book Procurement.” Decide whether your goal is to finish the named storyline, complete available radiant tasks, or both.
Rank #4
Because repeatable tasks do not have the same fixed endpoint as a named questline, a checklist that includes them needs its own stopping rule. Record the specific radiant tasks you intend to complete rather than treating an open-ended category as a finite list.

Use one row per named quest, and separate repeatable tasks into their own section. A spreadsheet or written list can track information the in-game journal is not meant to summarize across every category:
- Quest name and category: main story, side quest, faction questline, official add-on, Anniversary Edition content, radiant task, or mod.
- Prerequisite: the earlier quest or condition required to access it, if known.
- Status: not found, available, active, completed, optional, or conditional.
- Scope decision: whether this type of content counts toward your personal completion goal.
Mark optional and conditional quests explicitly instead of silently counting them as required or omitting them. For add-on and Creation Club content, record what your installed edition includes; for mods, maintain a separate list so your definition of completion remains clear if your mod setup changes.
