Nike positions Structure for supportive cushioning, Pegasus for responsive cushioning, and Vomero for maximum cushioning; those are Nike’s family descriptions, not independent test results or proof that one shoe is best for every runner.
Start with where and why you run
Decide whether you need shoes for everyday road running, off-road trails, or racing. A shoe designed for one use may not suit another: roads call for a road-running model, while uneven terrain makes traction and stability more important. Racing shoes are a specialized choice; Nike describes them as lighter, while noting trade-offs in durability and shock absorption. Match the shoe to the surface and the training or race role rather than choosing by appearance alone.

Nike’s trail-running guide emphasizes stability, traction, and fit on uneven ground. Consider how technical the route is and whether the shoe’s tread and protection suit that terrain.
Check fit before comparing features
Nike’s running-shoe guide recommends checking that your toes can move without pressure points, the heel feels secure without pinching, and there is about a thumb-width of space in front of your toes. These are general fit checks, not a universal sizing rule. Try the specific model if possible and consult its current product listing, since fit can vary between models.
#1 Best Overall
- Mesh on upper adds breathability.
- Flywire cables provide a supportive feel when you tighten the laces.
- Plush foam midsole cushions each step.
- Grooves on the rubber outsole help your foot move naturally.

For example, the Structure 26 men’s listing says, “Fits small; we recommend ordering a half size up.” That note applies to that product listing, not to every Nike shoe, and may change as listings are updated. Check the current Structure 26 product page before ordering.
Compare Nike’s cushioning families
Nike’s Running category groups three road-running families by cushioning character. Treat these labels as a starting point, then look at the exact model description and how the shoe feels on your foot.

Consider support without treating it as a diagnosis
Nike’s guide associates stability shoes with overpronation and neutral shoes with a neutral gait. The Structure 26 product page describes a midfoot support system and a guided, steady ride. These descriptions can help you decide what to try, but they do not diagnose your gait or establish that a shoe will prevent or treat an injury. If you have persistent pain or a medical concern, seek qualified advice.
Read model specifications in context
Nike lists the Structure 26 at approximately 320 g (11.3 oz) for a men’s US 10, with a 10 mm heel-to-toe drop. Those figures apply to that model and stated size; they do not establish a numeric weight ranking across the Structure, Pegasus, and Vomero families.
