Search receipts, review Apple, Google Play, and Roku subscription lists, and compare the results with your bank or card statements. Removing an app from a device does not stop its billing.
1. Search email for receipts and account clues
Search your inbox for streaming service names and billing terms such as “receipt,” “invoice,” “subscription,” and “renewal.” For Apple purchases, Apple recommends searching for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple” and checking which Apple Account appears on the receipt. A subscription may belong to a second account or to a family member rather than the account you checked first.

2. Check subscription lists on the platforms you use
Apple
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, select the service, and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no Cancel button or an expiration message appears, Apple says the subscription is already canceled. If it is not listed, check other Apple Accounts that may have been used to subscribe. If a family member bought it, that person must cancel it from their account. Regional exceptions can apply. See Apple’s subscription cancellation instructions.

Sign in to the Google Account used for the subscription, open Google Play’s subscriptions area, select the service, and follow the cancellation prompts. If it is missing, check your other Google Accounts. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Google says access generally continues for time already paid; payment plans may have separate rules for remaining payments. See Google Play’s cancellation instructions.

Roku
Check my.roku.com/subscriptions and your Roku purchase history. Roku says charges it bills may appear as “Roku,” “Roku for ___,” or “The Roku Channel.” If a subscription is absent from Roku purchase history, it may have been bought directly from the provider. For subscriptions billed and managed through Roku, select the subscription and turn off auto-renew. Roku says access continues until the current billing period ends and does not provide a partial-term refund. Some services, including Disney+, Hulu, and Sling TV, may be billed by Roku but managed by the provider, so follow that service’s current cancellation directions. Roku’s guidance was updated September 14, 2026.
3. Match the subscription to the charge
Compare the platform lists with bank and card statements, including payment methods you use less often. Look for annual renewals as well as monthly charges. A streaming app installed on a phone or TV is not proof that the subscription is billed through that device’s platform.

If you cannot find an Apple receipt, Apple advises checking the statement and contacting the company that bills you. A charge descriptor can point to Apple, Roku, the streaming service, a carrier, or another provider. The company taking payment may differ from the company whose app you watch.

5. Save confirmation and watch for another charge
Keep the cancellation email, confirmation screen, or notes from a support conversation. The Federal Trade Commission advises consumers to retain a copy of the cancellation request and notes about cancellation conversations. Monitor the relevant statement after canceling; the date access ends varies by service, so do not assume the app will stop working immediately.

For a free trial, mark the renewal deadline and check the payment statement afterward. If a charge continues after cancellation or appears unauthorized, contact your credit or debit card issuer about disputing it and preserve related correspondence. The FTC’s guidance is for US consumers; elsewhere, contact your local consumer-protection body and payment provider.
