To find the right online cybersecurity master’s program, compare more than tuition: check technical prerequisites, course focus, actual online format, total cost, and the exact scope of any cybersecurity designation. The programs below are representative examples, not a ranking or exhaustive directory. Their formats, admissions expectations, and published cost figures differ, so confirm current details with each university before applying.
Start with the role and skills you want to build
Cybersecurity master’s programs can emphasize hands-on operations, secure software, digital forensics, risk, or leadership. Choose courses and projects that build toward your intended work rather than relying on a degree title alone.

| Program | Curriculum signals described by the university | Format and other notes |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Kentucky University (NKU), M.S. in Cybersecurity | Cloud security, data privacy, architecture, incident response, risk, and testing, with theory and hands-on content. | NKU describes the program as 100% online and cites NCAE-C. |
| University of Delaware, Online M.S. in Cybersecurity | Course listings include secure software, networks, applied cryptography, and penetration testing. | Online; the university reports an NSA/DHS CAE Cyber Defense designation. |
| Pace University, online M.S. in Cybersecurity | Cyber Operations, Cybersecurity Leadership, or a self-designed course path; virtual labs and projects. | Pace describes coursework as 100% online; its page lists no GRE/GMAT requirement. |
| University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO), M.S. in Cybersecurity | Cyber operations or interdisciplinary concentration; the page describes access to a security operations center. | Fully online, hybrid, and in-person options are listed. Students without a technical background may need foundational computing classes first. |
| Ohio State, Master of Cybersecurity and Digital Trust | Network security, cryptography, software security, offensive computing, malware analysis, and an experiential project. | Fully online, interactive format; designed for technically experienced professionals. |
| Fairfield University, M.S. in Cybersecurity | Labs, simulations, and casework. | Flexible online learning; NCAE-CD designation effective through 2030, as stated by Fairfield. |
| Quinnipiac University, M.S. in Cybersecurity | Ethical hacking, cloud security, programming for security professionals; thesis or non-thesis option. | Fully online or hybrid. Admissions routes include relevant computing education, coursework or certificates, relevant work or military experience, or director approval. |
| Utah Valley University (UVU), M.S. in Cybersecurity | Operations, law, ethics and privacy, penetration testing, network defense, risk, and electives including forensics, malware, secure coding, and application security. | UVU says the fully online format begins Fall 2026 and is designed for two years part-time. It reports validation through 2030; full CAE-CD designation is in process. |
These are curriculum signals, not a substitute for comparing current course lists, syllabi, and sample projects. A leadership path, for example, is different preparation from penetration testing or secure software work.
Check prerequisites against your background
Admissions expectations vary. NKU says applicants do not need prior technology experience and lists a 2.5 minimum undergraduate GPA. UNO warns that students without a technical background may need foundational computing classes. Ohio State describes its program as designed for technically experienced professionals. Quinnipiac lists several routes, including relevant work or military experience and director approval.

Ask admissions to review your transcripts and experience before you apply. Find out whether you need bridge courses, whether they count toward the degree, and whether they change the likely completion time or total cost. Check each program’s current requirements for tests, recommendations, deadlines, and application materials; the details summarized here do not establish a complete admissions checklist.
Compare online format, pace, and hands-on access
“Online” can mean different things. NKU and Pace describe 100% online coursework; Delaware and Ohio State list online study; Quinnipiac offers fully online or hybrid study; UNO lists fully online, hybrid, and in-person options. UVU says its fully online offering starts in Fall 2026. These labels do not establish whether classes are synchronous, whether attendance at campus is ever required, or how labs are scheduled.
- Ask whether lectures are live or asynchronous, and whether live sessions are recorded.
- Confirm term dates, weekly workload, part-time options, and expected time to finish.
- Ask how virtual labs, simulations, projects, and any security operations center access work for remote students.
- Check whether any campus visits, internships, or in-person assessments are required, including for students in your state.
Compare credits and published costs on the same basis
Published figures use different bases: per-credit rates, tuition estimates, or totals that include fees. The figures below are those stated by the universities in the reviewed 2026 program information; they are not guaranteed quotes.

| Program | Credits and time | Published cost information |
|---|---|---|
| NKU | 30 credits | $541 per credit; $16,710 total with fees. NKU says tuition and fees may change. |
| University of Delaware | 30 credits; 18–24 months | $1,149 per credit. |
| Pace University | Not stated in the reviewed page | A reliable total cost was not available in the reviewed page content; consult its current tuition section. |
| UNO | 33 credit hours | Not stated in the reviewed program information. |
| Ohio State | 30 credits, according to the program’s search-result information | Not stated in the reviewed program information; check current costs directly. |
| Fairfield University | 30 credits | For 2026–27, $1,095 per credit and estimated tuition of $32,850. Estimate excludes fees and annual rate increases. |
| Quinnipiac University | 30 credits | Not stated in the reviewed program information. |
| UVU | Designed as a two-year part-time program | Not stated in the reviewed program information. |
Before comparing offers, request a current all-in estimate for your intended course load. Include mandatory fees, books, lab or platform costs, prerequisites, transfer credits, and likely tuition increases. Also ask about financial aid and employer tuition support. A published per-credit rate is not a full degree price, and a tuition estimate that excludes fees is not directly comparable with a total that includes them.

Understand what cybersecurity designations do—and do not—mean
Designation language can refer to different statuses and scopes. The examples here include NKU’s mention of NCAE-C, Delaware’s reported NSA/DHS CAE Cyber Defense designation, Fairfield’s NCAE-CD designation effective through 2030, and UVU’s statement that it is validated through 2030 while full CAE-CD designation is in process. Those statements are not interchangeable: validation, an active designation, and an application or process underway describe different things.
Verify the current status, validity dates, and whether recognition applies to the institution, a particular program, or a defined curriculum in the official directory and with the university. Treat a designation as one factor alongside course content, faculty access, student support, and outcomes—not as a guarantee of employment or salary.

Use a final application checklist
- Confirm the exact online modality, live meeting schedule, term calendar, and any in-person requirement.
- Ask admissions to assess prerequisites and clarify whether bridge courses add credits, time, or tuition.
- Request an itemized current cost estimate covering tuition, fees, labs, books, transfer credits, and annual rate changes.
- Compare course descriptions and sample projects with your target role; decide whether you need technical specialization, leadership preparation, or interdisciplinary study.
- Check designation scope and validity with the current official directory and the institution.
- Ask about internship access, career services, employer support, and recent outcomes. Look for published evidence before relying on promotional claims.
- Confirm that the university can enroll students who live in your state and verify the active application deadline directly; displayed deadlines can become outdated.
