You can use an iPhone to locate a compatible Apple TV remote, but Apple does not describe this feature as AirTag-style Precision Finding. It shows proximity cues—a growing circle and “far,” “near,” or “here” prompts—rather than documented directional UWB arrows. You need iOS 17 or later, tvOS 17 or later, and an Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote (2nd generation or later).
What Apple’s remote-finding feature does
The Find control is part of the Apple TV Remote feature in iPhone Control Center. When you start locating a compatible remote, the iPhone displays an expanding circle and proximity labels as you approach it. Apple’s instructions describe those on-screen cues; they do not identify the remote locator as AirTag-style Precision Finding or specify that the remote uses ultra-wideband (UWB).

That distinction matters: Apple Developer documentation discusses UWB precision ranging in general, including estimating distance from signal strength and packet timing, but that general explanation does not establish the radio technology used by the Apple TV remote-finding feature. Requirements
- An iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
- An Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later.
- An Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote, 2nd generation or later.

How to locate the remote from iPhone Control Center
- Open Control Center on your iPhone.
- Tap Apple TV Remote.
- Choose the Apple TV connected to the remote you’re trying to find.
- Tap Find beside the remote, then follow the on-screen prompts as the circle and proximity label change.

How this differs from AirTag Precision Finding

So, if by “Precision Finding” you mean AirTag-style directional guidance, Apple’s cited remote instructions do not promise that. They describe a proximity-based way to narrow down where the remote is.

If you don’t see Find
- Check that the iPhone has iOS 17 or later and the Apple TV has tvOS 17 or later.
- Confirm that the remote is an Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote, 2nd generation or later.
- Open the Apple TV Remote control in Control Center and select the relevant Apple TV before looking for Find.
- If the connection does not establish, move around and try again; Apple says movement may be needed to establish a connection.
If the remote is unavailable or damaged, a compatible replacement remote is an option for supported Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD models. Check Apple’s remote guidance for compatibility. A replacement is not required just to try the iPhone locating steps.
