Swipe left through your Home Screen pages to open the App Library. Use its search field to look up an app by name, or scroll the alphabetical list to browse installed apps. If an app is missing there, check whether it was deliberately hidden: on iOS 18 or later, hidden apps are kept out of normal Search and the App Library and must be opened from an authenticated Hidden area.
Find apps in the App Library

Tap the search field at the top. Type the app’s name, or scroll through the alphabetical list. Tap an app to open it. Some category tiles can be expanded to reveal their smaller app icons.

Apple says the App Library includes apps removed from the Home Screen and organizes them into categories. Its categories are automatic: you can add an app to the Home Screen, but you can’t move it to a different App Library category. See Apple’s App Library guide.

If an app is missing
Search from the Home Screen
Swipe down from the middle of the Home Screen to open Search, then enter the app’s name. On iOS 16 and later, you can also tap the Search field at the bottom of the Home Screen. Search can locate apps on hidden Home Screen pages.
Check for a hidden Home Screen page
A hidden page does not remove its apps from the App Library. To show a page again, touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap the page dots, select the hidden page, and tap Done. Apple’s missing-app troubleshooting steps explain how to check pages and search.

Look in Hidden apps on iOS 18 or later
If you used the Hide App feature, the app won’t appear on the Home Screen, in the App Library, or in ordinary Search. In the App Library, scroll to the Hidden folder and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. You can also go to Settings > Apps > Hidden Apps and authenticate to view hidden apps.
Consider whether the app was deleted
If the app is not in the App Library or Hidden area, it may have been deleted. In that case, download it again to use it.

What “missing” can mean

To change the default location for future app downloads, open Settings > Home Screen & App Library and choose Add to Home Screen or App Library Only. When Home Screen pages are hidden, new downloads can also go to the App Library rather than a visible Home Screen page. The App Library feature is documented for iOS 14 and later; the Hide App instructions above apply to iOS 18 or later.
