The best smartphone gimbal depends first on whether it safely fits your phone, then on how you want to track subjects, frame shots and carry your setup. Current 2026 buying guides support seven distinct recommendations across entry-level, portable, tracking-focused and remote-controlled options—not ten equally verified winners. This guide compares those supported picks and explains what to check before buying.
How to choose a smartphone gimbal
Check your phone’s fit before comparing features
Measure your phone with the case and any accessories you plan to leave attached. A clamp that fits the bare phone may not fit a case, lens attachment or other add-on. DJI recommends phones for the Osmo Mobile 8 that are 67–84 mm wide, 6.9–10 mm thick and 170–300 g. Insta360 recommends Flow-series phones that are 64–84 mm wide, 6.9–10 mm thick and 130–300 g; it cautions that larger or heavier devices may not clamp securely. These are manufacturer recommendations, not a guarantee of fit for every phone or setup. Check the current compatibility list for the exact gimbal and phone before ordering: DJI Osmo Mobile 8 FAQ and Insta360 Flow-series compatibility information.

Find out how tracking works with your phone
“Tracking” can mean different things: tracking through the gimbal maker’s app, a direct connection to the phone, an optional hardware tracker, or Apple DockKit. Those routes may support different subjects and camera apps. DJI says the Osmo Mobile 8 supports DockKit tracking in more than 200 iOS apps, and describes separate behavior for direct phone connection, its Multifunctional Module and the Mimo app. Treat that app count as a manufacturer specification, and check which route supports the filming app you actually use in DJI’s official FAQ.

iOS and Android controls may differ even when a gimbal supports both platforms. Insta360 says Android native-camera controls may provide basic photo control, while zoom, camera switching and mode switching vary by phone model. Its tested-device list is a useful compatibility check, not a promise that every Android camera feature will work: Insta360 compatibility information.

Match the setup to how you film
- Solo filming: A detachable screen remote can help you frame a rear-camera shot from a distance.
- Walking and travel: A folding design, built-in tripod or extension rod can make setup more convenient, but added controls and accessories can add weight.
- Audio: A phone’s built-in microphone may pick up gimbal motor noise. If you choose a model with that reported caveat, consider how you will record sound.
- Bundles: Standard, creator and tracker bundles can include different accessories. Confirm the exact regional package rather than assuming a product-page photo shows what is in the box.
These are smartphone stabilizers, not universal camera gimbals. Insta360 says its Flow-series gimbals do not support action or 360 cameras; check each maker’s compatibility information if you plan to mount anything other than a supported smartphone.
Seven smartphone gimbals worth considering in 2026
The recommendations below reflect the use cases identified by the cited 2026 buying guides and manufacturer specifications where available. They are not a ranked top ten or a claim that these are the only worthwhile products. Prices, stock, software support and bundle contents vary by region and can change; confirm the exact model and package with the seller.

Which gimbal fits each filming workflow?
DJI Osmo Mobile 8: an all-round option
Digital Camera World names the Osmo Mobile 8 its choice for novices and describes it as an all-rounder. DJI lists unlimited 360-degree pan, low-angle shooting, tracking options and phone charging, alongside the phone dimensions and weight in its official FAQ. DJI describes the pan axis as supporting “360° unlimited rotation” for panoramic recording and intelligent tracking; that is a product description, not an independent performance test. The combination makes this a practical place to start if you want a handle-and-tripod setup with several tracking routes, but verify that the phone and case fall within DJI’s recommended range.
Insta360 Flow 2 Pro: portability with tracking options
Digital Camera World selects the Flow 2 Pro for tracking and portability. Insta360 lists three-axis stabilization, infinite pan tracking, a built-in selfie stick, tripod and mirror, and Apple DockKit support for more than 200 iOS apps on its product page. An optional AI Tracker bundle is also listed, but package contents vary. Check the precise bundle and your phone’s operating-system compatibility before choosing it; Android native-camera controls can vary by phone model.

Capture entire events or long adventures without worrying about running out of power
Zhiyun Smooth Q5 Ultra: a price-conscious candidate
Digital Camera World calls the Smooth Q5 Ultra a value pick and highlights its tracking and detachable remote. That is the publisher’s assessment, not a measured comparison of current street prices. Check availability and the price in your region, and make sure the remote and any other accessories you want are included in the package you are considering.
Insta360 Flow 2: a simpler Flow-series choice
Digital Camera World positions the Flow 2 as a minimalist or entry option. Insta360’s compatibility information covers the Flow series, but features and bundles can differ by model. Compare the Flow 2 with the Flow 2 Pro against the specific tracking, tripod, remote and app functions you need rather than assuming the two models are interchangeable: Insta360 compatibility information.
Rank #4
- Snap the Spectacular - The Multifunctional Module packs intelligent tracking, DJI Mic 2/DJI Mic Mini reception, and lighting features into one compact unit. Pair it with your phone gimbal for ideal shots every time.
- Experience Seamless Stability - Osmo Mobile 7P's robust 3-axis gimbal stabilization ensures lossless stability. Capture creative bursts and craft stunning, cinema-quality masterpieces with ease.
- Capture Like a Pro From Day One - Pair your Osmo Mobile 7P with DJI Mimo for ShotGuides and One-Tap Edit. Film and edit like a pro, saving time and enhancing your creative storytelling instantly.
- So Quick, So Easy - Unfold the phone gimbal to power it on. Easily mount a paired smartphone with the magnetic design, and the Mimo app pops up automatically [3] so you can film instantly.
- Streamline Your Creativity - Osmo Mobile 7P's built-in extension rod and tripod [4] let you capture wide selfies and steady vlogs with ease, offering creative freedom without the hassle of extra gear.
DJI Osmo Mobile 8P: remote control for solo shots
Digital Camera World highlights the 8P’s detachable touchscreen remote, while TechRadar describes a 1.4-inch screen and remote shooting. A remote can help you frame yourself when filming with the phone’s rear camera, but it introduces another control step rather than making every adjustment immediate. TechRadar also notes regional availability, so confirm you can buy the exact model where you live.

Hohem iSteady M7: capacity for heavier phones
TechRadar names the iSteady M7 its best overall pick for demanding users; Digital Camera World also describes it as a premium option. TechRadar lists a maximum compatible phone weight of 500 g and a stated battery life of 9 hours. Those are published specifications, not a promise of runtime in every filming setup. Digital Camera World notes that the roll axis may intrude into the shot on steep tilts. Its capacity and remote/tracking features suit a more involved setup, while its bulk and premium positioning make it less appealing if light packing or a low-cost kit matters most.

Hohem iSteady V3 Ultra: removable-screen control, with an audio caveat
TechRadar describes the V3 Ultra as offering app-agnostic tracking and a removable 1.22-inch touchscreen remote. The guide lists support for phones up to 400 g, approximately 9 hours of battery life and a gimbal weight of 428 g. It also reports that motor noise may be captured by the phone microphone and that the model lacks a quick-release mount. If you record dialogue on the phone, plan for the possibility of motor noise; an external microphone may help, depending on its placement and recording setup.

Two additional models appear in the cited coverage, but the available information is not enough here to present them as equally substantiated recommendations.
- Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI: Zhiyun’s official product page lists three-axis stabilization, AI tracking, an extension rod, fill light and a 150–300 g phone payload. It gives a 2-hour-20-minute to 26-hour runtime range; that unusually wide manufacturer range is workload-dependent, not a normal-use battery promise. The page lists standard weight as 625 g. Check the product’s current availability and whether its feature set suits your phone and filming style.
- DJI Osmo Mobile 6: TechRadar mentions it as a compact alternative, but it is an earlier-generation model. Check its current status, local price and value against newer options before buying.
Digital Camera World also mentions the Hohem iSteady V7 for rear-camera monitoring with a sensor/display setup. That mention alone does not establish a complete current specification or support a broader recommendation, so verify model status and full details directly before considering it.
Quick Recap
Final checks before you buy
- Confirm your phone’s width, thickness and weight with its case and intended accessories attached; check the manufacturer’s exact compatibility information.

- Consider carrying weight, audio needs, battery claims and any reviewer-reported handling trade-offs against your usual shoots.
- Check current local availability, price, app support and firmware information for the exact model before purchasing.
