What a good wireless-bra fit looks and feels like

- Band: It sits level around your body and close to it, rather than riding up your back or shifting as you move.
- Cups: They contain the breast tissue without bulging over the edges or leaving loose, gaping fabric. The cup shape should suit your breast shape.

- Movement: Raise your arms. The bra should remain in place, with the band and cups still covering you as they did before you moved.

How to measure at home
Breast Cancer Now recommends measuring without a padded bra, using a soft fabric tape. Measure directly below your breasts and around the fullest part of your bust, then use the brand or guide’s instructions to estimate a size.

Breast Cancer Now’s UK sizing method adds four inches to an even underbust measurement or five inches to an odd one. That is the method used in that guide, not a universal sizing rule: fitters and manufacturers may calculate sizes differently, and brands can vary by style. Follow the instructions for the sizing system you are using, then try the resulting size in the particular bra.
How to try on a wireless bra
- Put on the bra and settle the cups. Lean slightly forward or scoop your breasts into the cups so the tissue is contained.
- Settle the band. Adjust the closure as needed and check that the band lies flat below your breasts and remains level around your body.
- Adjust the straps. Set them so they stay in place without digging into your shoulders.
- Check the cups. Look for both overflow and empty space; neither should remain after you have settled the cups.
- Move in the bra. Raise your arms and check that the garment stays put and still feels comfortable.
- Compare alternatives if needed. Try a different size or style if the band shifts, the cups gap or spill, or the straps slip despite adjustment. For online orders, check the return policy before buying.
Can a wireless bra provide support?
Yes. Wireless does not mean unsupported: Breast Cancer Now says non-wired bras, including bralettes, can offer some support. How much support an individual bra provides depends on its design and fit. There is no independently sourced comparative statistic in the cited guidance that establishes how wireless bras perform against underwire bras overall.

Use those occasions as prompts to reassess rather than assuming a previous size still fits.
If your breasts differ in size, Alberta Health Services recommends choosing a cup that fits the larger breast. An insert in the smaller cup is one option. A trained fitter can also help if you have trouble finding a cup or band that stays comfortable and secure.

What bra fit does—and does not—say about breast cancer
The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s bra-fit page says bra fit does not affect breast cancer risk. It also states that “four out of five women are wearing the wrong bra size,” but gives no underlying study, sample or publication year. Without that supporting evidence, the figure should not be treated as an established population statistic.
