On Windows 11, a MAC address is usually labeled Physical address. Find it in Settings by opening the properties for the Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection you need, or run ipconfig /all and read the Physical Address field under that adapter’s heading.
Find the MAC address in Windows 11 Settings
- Open Start > Settings > Network & internet.
- Choose Wi-Fi for a wireless connection or Ethernet for a wired connection. For Wi-Fi, open the relevant connected network’s properties or the adapter’s hardware properties. For Ethernet, inspect the connection’s properties.
- Look for Physical address (MAC) or Physical address, then copy the value shown for the intended adapter.

Find it with ipconfig /all
- Open Start, type Command Prompt or Terminal, and launch the app.
- Enter
ipconfig /alland press Enter. - Find the heading for the connection you need, such as Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter Ethernet.
- In that adapter’s section, read the Physical Address field.
Microsoft’s instructions for analyzing a wireless network report explain that ipconfig /all displays detailed adapter information, including the physical (MAC) address.

Choose the address for the right adapter
Windows lists network details by adapter, so a computer may show several physical addresses. Match the adapter name to the connection requested—Wi-Fi or Ethernet—rather than copying the first address in the list. In Windows network details, Physical address means the MAC address.

Check Wi-Fi random hardware addresses
Windows can use random hardware addresses for Wi-Fi when the device supports the feature. Microsoft explains that random addresses may be used while the PC scans for networks, and the setting can apply to all Wi-Fi networks or to a selected network. The address used for a particular Wi-Fi network may therefore differ from the adapter’s hardware address.
If you are providing a MAC address for network access control or device registration, ask the network administrator whether they need the adapter’s hardware address or the randomized address used for that Wi-Fi network. Do not disable randomization unless you have a practical reason and understand the privacy tradeoff. Microsoft notes that a Wi-Fi scan signal can contain “the unique physical hardware (MAC) address for your device” when random hardware addresses are not being used for that purpose: Connect to a Wi-Fi network in Windows.
