One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchUse Samsung Find or SmartThings Find from another device or a browser, and sign in with the Samsung account registered on the missing Galaxy. Select the phone to check its location and choose an available action. If you suspect theft, do not go to the map pin yourself: Samsung says to inform authorities and let them retrieve the device.
Locate your Galaxy from another device
- Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find in a browser, or open the service on another Galaxy device. Samsung’s current US instructions refer to both services; the service name and interface can differ by market.
- Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone.
- Select the missing Galaxy from the device list. Review the displayed location and the actions available for that device.
Samsung’s US support instructions say ordinary remote locating requires the phone to be powered on and connected to a stable network. If it is powered off, you may see only its last known location—not a current position. A map location is an aid, not proof that the handset is still there.

Understand offline finding and location updates
Offline finding
If Offline finding was enabled before the loss, nearby compatible Galaxy devices may relay a location for a phone that is offline. This depends on participating devices being nearby and supported in the region. Samsung India cautions that Find Node devices do not indicate the lost device’s exact location. Offline finding is not a guarantee of a current or precise location, and it is not the same as locating a phone that is powered off.
Track location during transit
If you think the phone may be moving on a bus or train, Samsung’s Track location feature can provide updates every 15 minutes. Treat this as periodic location information, not continuous live tracking or a promise of precise updates.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Choose the safest useful remote action
| Action | When it helps | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Ring | The phone may be nearby, such as in a hotel room or taxi. | Samsung says it rings for one minute, even if set to mute or vibrate. The phone must be reachable for the command. |
| Track location | The phone may be moving, including on public transit. | Samsung says it provides updates every 15 minutes; it is not continuous tracking. |
| Lock | You want to protect access while leaving recovery possible. | Use this before considering data erasure if the phone may still be recovered. |
| Remote battery extension | The phone is reachable and preserving its remaining battery could help. | Availability depends on the device and service; it cannot make an unreachable phone respond. |
| Erase data | Recovery seems unlikely and protecting stored data outweighs the chance of finding the handset. | This removes device data and is consequential. Samsung advises backing up before a remote factory reset where possible. |
Remote controls depend on the handset and service being able to receive the command; do not assume Ring, Lock, or Erase will work while the phone is off or unreachable. Erasing can also affect later recovery: Samsung notes that Google device protection may require the Google account previously registered on the phone to unlock it if it is found afterward.
If you suspect the phone was stolen
- Do not approach the map location. Samsung explicitly advises users not to go directly to the location shown for a stolen device. Inform local authorities and let them retrieve it.
- Contact your carrier. Ask whether it can help locate the device or suspend service. Carrier assistance is provider-specific; Samsung does not describe a universal process for travelers abroad.
- Protect accounts. If remote erase is unavailable, change passwords for accounts that may be signed in on the phone. Samsung says changing your Samsung account password logs out other devices using that account.
Check these settings before traveling
On the Galaxy, open Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection. Check that these controls are enabled:

Menu labels can vary by device, software version, and market. Your phone also needs a Samsung account. Samsung’s ordinary remote-locating guidance describes a powered-on device with a stable network connection; Send last location and Offline finding can help with different loss conditions, but neither guarantees a live location.
