Start with the display settings you notice least
The screen is a practical place to look first. Samsung identifies high brightness and long screen timeouts among factors that use more battery, alongside demanding apps, high-resolution streaming, and location services. These settings help reduce avoidable display use without requiring you to turn off useful features. Samsung notes that menu names and paths can vary by model and software version.

Use adaptive brightness or a comfortable lower level
Turn on adaptive brightness if your phone offers it, or lower brightness manually to the lowest level that remains comfortable and readable. Adaptive brightness adjusts the display to surrounding light, so you do not have to keep it at a needlessly high fixed level.

Choose a shorter interval before the screen turns off when idle. If your phone has a screen-attention feature that keeps the display on while you are looking at it, you can use that alongside a short timeout if you value that convenience.

Try Dark theme
Dark theme and a dark-tone wallpaper are low-disruption options on an AMOLED phone. Google recommends Dark theme for Pixel phones, and Samsung recommends a dark-tone wallpaper or theme. Neither source gives a universal estimate of the battery saved, so the effect will depend on the phone and how you use it.
Choose a refresh rate that matches your priorities
Higher refresh rates can make scrolling and animation look smoother, but they can use more power. On supported Galaxy phones, Samsung describes Adaptive as dynamically adjusting the refresh rate up to 120 Hz, using higher rates when needed and conserving battery in less demanding situations. The available choices vary by model.

To change the setting on a supported Galaxy, open Settings > Display > Motion smoothness. Labels and availability differ across devices; consult your phone’s display settings if this path does not match.

Find the apps responsible before restricting them
Check your phone’s battery-usage screen before limiting apps. Samsung recommends reviewing battery usage and high-use apps. If one app is consuming unusually large amounts of power in the background, address that app specifically rather than broadly restricting all apps and risking delayed notifications or other changes to normal behavior.
On a Galaxy phone, look in Settings > Battery for battery-usage details; the exact labels can differ by model and software version. If the screen identifies an app you rarely use but that is using substantial background power, review its battery or background-activity controls. Avoid restricting apps you depend on for timely alerts unless you are comfortable with the resulting limits.
Keep adaptive battery features enabled
Where available, leave your phone’s adaptive battery or app-optimization features on. Google says Pixel Battery learns from recent app usage and optimizes battery behavior; after setup or a factory reset, that learning may take a few weeks. This is Pixel-specific guidance, not a promise that every Android phone uses the same feature or timeline.

Use Power Saving when the trade-offs are worthwhile
Power Saving is useful when you need to stretch a low charge, but it can affect features you may want to keep available. Samsung says its Power Saving controls can restrict background Wi-Fi or mobile data, limit location, disable Always On Display, and reduce brightness or performance, depending on the phone and selected controls. Check the options shown on your device rather than assuming every Galaxy applies the same restrictions.

For everyday use, try the display adjustments and targeted app review first. Turn on a stronger Power Saving mode when reaching a charger matters more than background connectivity, location access, Always On Display, or performance.
What to expect from these changes
Samsung and Google describe the direction of these settings, but their guidance does not establish a universal percentage or number of hours saved for AMOLED phones. Results depend on the particular phone, software, display settings, apps, and usage. Use your phone’s battery-usage information to see which changes make a practical difference for you.
