What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start by checking which apps and activities are using power, then restrict background activity selectively—not across the board. Keep background access and notifications enabled for apps whose alerts must arrive promptly, and test any battery-saving mode with the phone locked before relying on it. Vivo’s menus vary by model and software version, and its manuals do not establish a universal battery-life gain, so use the battery figures to find likely causes rather than to expect a specific number of extra hours.
1. Find what is using the battery before changing settings
Open Settings > Battery, or the nearest equivalent on your Vivo phone. Look for a battery-usage view covering the period since the last full charge and, if available, a per-app power-consumption list. Menu names and the information shown differ across models and software versions.

Use the list to identify suspects, not to rank phones or calculate a guaranteed saving. Vivo’s user manual for model PD2405F says the reported consumption figures are approximate and can vary with usage. A high figure may point to an app or activity worth investigating, but it does not by itself show why the power was used or prove that restricting the app will save a particular amount.

If the screen covers only a short stretch, an activity that ran briefly may appear disproportionately important. Use the same period when comparing your own usage on different days.
- Look for repeat patterns. Note apps near the top of the list and whether their use matches what you did—for example, watching video or navigating—or seems to continue when you are not actively using the phone.
- Separate screen use from background use. An app you used heavily may account for substantial consumption without being a background problem. Focus restrictions on activity that continues when the app is not in use, where the phone exposes that information.
- Change one thing at a time. This makes it easier to tell whether a setting helped and whether it interfered with an alert you need.
Vivo’s support topics flag standby, 5G, social apps, video, navigation, hotspots, and connected wearables as battery-drain contexts. Treat them as prompts for checking your own usage, not as explanations that apply to every phone. For example, active navigation or a hotspot may be expected to use power; a persistent standby drain needs closer investigation.

2. Decide which alerts must arrive promptly
Before restricting an app, make a short list of notifications you cannot afford to miss. It may include calls, personal messages, work or accessibility alerts, delivery updates, or security notifications. For those apps, leave notifications enabled and permit background operation wherever your Vivo provides an app-specific control.
For other apps, consider whether you need an immediate alert at all. You might restrict an app’s background activity, turn off only its nonessential notification categories, or leave it unchanged until the battery-usage view gives you a reason to act. This selective approach follows Vivo’s documented controls; it is a practical prioritization, not a guarantee that any particular app will behave identically on every model.
Do not assume that turning off notifications and restricting background activity are the same change. Notification controls determine whether alerts can be shown or how they are displayed. Background controls affect whether an app can do work while you are not using it, which may affect when some alerts are received. A setting in either area can be relevant, and an app may also depend on its own configuration or a network connection.
3. Restrict background power use only for apps that can wait
Vivo documents an app-specific high-background-power control that can allow or prevent an app from running in the background despite its power use. The exact label and location depend on the phone’s model and software. One Vivo India community post dated November 1, 2022, gives these historical paths:
- Funtouch OS 3.0 and later, as described in that post: Settings > Battery > High background power usage, then enable or prevent background operation for a program.
- An earlier Funtouch OS 3.0 path, as described in the same post: iManager > Power manager > Excessive background battery usage.
These paths are version-specific guidance from 2022, not a promise that the labels still appear on a current Vivo phone. If you cannot find the control, search Settings for background power, battery, or auto-start. The auto-start control, where present, is a separate setting and may influence whether an app can launch or resume in the background; do not change it for an alert-critical app without testing. If a named switch is absent, use the manual or Vivo support for your exact model and region rather than assuming the feature is available.
For an app whose alerts matter
Keep its background permission or allowance enabled if the phone offers one. Also confirm that the app’s notifications are enabled. Avoid applying a restrictive setting simply because the app appears high in the battery list: first consider whether you used it, whether its activity was expected, and whether delayed alerts would cause a problem.

For an app that can wait
Try restricting background activity for that app alone, then observe whether the battery-usage pattern changes over a comparable period. Some apps may update only when opened or may deliver information later. If that is not acceptable, restore the previous allowance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute4. Treat Battery Saver as a system-wide tradeoff
Battery Saver can affect more than a single app. The Vivo PD2405F user manual says: “Battery Saver turns on Dark theme and limits or turns off background activities, some visual effects, certain features, and some network connections.” Its effects can therefore reach apps whose timely alerts depend on background activity or connectivity. The manual is for one model, so the precise behavior and available options may differ on other Vivo phones.
If you rely on prompt notifications, do not assume Battery Saver is harmless just because an app’s notification switch remains on. Check the mode’s description on your own phone, and test the apps you depend on while it is enabled. If alerts are delayed, disable Battery Saver or adjust the relevant app-specific allowance if your model permits it. The aim is to make a conscious tradeoff, not to apply the most restrictive mode and discover the consequences later.
5. Test notification delivery, then check where an alert disappeared
Use a real test for each app you depend on. This is a procedure you can perform on your phone, not a reported test result or a guarantee of future delivery.
- Enable the battery mode or background restriction you want to evaluate.
- Lock the phone and leave the app in the background for a period long enough to reflect how you normally use it.
- Ask someone to send a real message or trigger an appropriate alert. For a work, delivery, security, or accessibility app, use an alert that is safe to test and that the service itself supports.
- Check whether the alert arrives promptly and appears as expected on the lock screen or in the notification shade.
- If it is late or absent, restore the app’s background allowance or turn off the restrictive mode, then repeat the test. Change one setting at a time so you can identify the likely cause.
Where your model offers notification history, review it for recent or snoozed notifications. Vivo’s manual for PD2405F documents notification-display controls for individual apps and a notification history. These features can help distinguish a notification that was hidden, dismissed, or snoozed from one that never appeared in the history. They cannot prove that an alert reached the phone: app-side problems, account settings, or network conditions may also prevent delivery.
If an alert is missing, inspect the app’s notification controls as well as its background allowance. Check whether notifications are enabled and whether the relevant display options or categories are muted. The exact labels vary. If no notification appears in history, that still does not identify the cause; use the app’s own status or settings and your network connection as further checks.

Make the test useful
Test the setting you actually plan to use, rather than drawing a conclusion from one alert received under different conditions. For example, if you intend to leave Battery Saver on, test with that mode enabled and the phone locked. If you are evaluating a per-app restriction, test that restriction without changing several other settings at the same time. Check both whether the alert arrives and whether it is visible in the place you expect. An alert that arrives but is hidden or snoozed points you toward notification display controls; an alert that does not show up in history still leaves app configuration and connectivity as possible causes.
One successful test is useful but not a promise that every future alert will arrive on time. Delivery can depend on the app and network as well as the Vivo setting. If alerts are important, keep the least restrictive setting that meets your needs and repeat the check after a software update or a change to the app’s settings.
6. Choose the least disruptive setting that addresses the problem
The controls differ in scope and in how much they can affect alerts. This comparison is qualitative: Vivo has not established a model-independent amount of battery life that any one setting will save.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Control | Scope and likely effect | Notification consideration | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery-usage view | Diagnostic only; shows estimated use over time or by app, rather than reducing activity itself. | No direct alert effect from viewing the figures. | Battery information is documented by Vivo, but the view and labels vary by software and model. |
| High-background-power or similar app control | Per-app; allows or prevents background operation for selected apps. | Restricting an alert-critical app may delay or affect alerts that rely on background work. | Documented by Vivo; the menu path and control may vary. |
| Battery Saver | System-wide; may limit background activity, features, visual effects, or network connections. | Can interfere with timely alerts; test critical apps while the mode is active. | Documented in the PD2405F manual as an example; behavior and availability may differ by model. |
| Per-app notification controls | Per-app display or notification settings; they control alerts rather than directly targeting battery use. | Muting or hiding an alert can look like a delivery problem even when background operation is allowed. | Documented in the PD2405F manual as an example; labels and options vary. |
A sensible order is to diagnose first, restrict only a nonessential app with unusually persistent background activity, and consider Battery Saver only if the broader tradeoff suits you. Check notification settings if alerts seem hidden. If a change affects an important alert, undo that change before trying another.
7. Investigate common drain contexts without cutting off needed connectivity
Battery use depends on what the phone is doing and the conditions around it. Vivo’s support index identifies several contexts worth checking in the usage view:
- Standby: If the phone loses charge while idle, compare the same sort of idle period across days and inspect background activity. Standby drain alone does not identify a particular app or setting.
- Mobile network and 5G: Network activity is a possible contributor, but disabling mobile connectivity wholesale can also prevent the calls, messages, or app alerts you need. Investigate only options your model and carrier expose, and verify that essential alerts still arrive.
- Video and social apps: Look for sustained use that matches the battery-usage record. High use during active viewing is different from unexplained background activity.
- Navigation: Check whether the battery drop aligns with a navigation session. If the phone is navigating, the usage may reflect the task rather than a runaway app.
- Hotspots and connected wearables: Check whether a hotspot or paired wearable was active during the period you are investigating. Do not disconnect a device or service if you rely on it without considering what will stop working.
These are diagnostic possibilities, not guaranteed causes on every Vivo phone. Change a connectivity setting only when it addresses a pattern you have observed and does not undermine the alerts or services you depend on.

8. If the menus or results differ on your phone
Vivo warns that support and features vary. A switch documented for one model may not exist on another, and menu paths can change with software generation, carrier, or region. The PD2405F manual and the dated community post are useful examples, not universal instructions. Check the manual or Vivo support for the exact model when a control is missing or has a different name.
If you have made several changes and cannot tell which one affected alerts, return the relevant apps to their previous background and notification settings, turn off the system-wide battery mode, and test again. Then reapply one change at a time, starting with apps that do not need prompt updates. If an alert remains missing with restrictions removed, the cause may be outside the battery setting—for example, the app’s configuration or network conditions—so battery controls alone cannot establish or fix it.
Frequently asked questions
Why do Vivo notifications stop when Battery Saver is on?
Battery Saver may limit or turn off background activities and some network connections, which can affect apps that depend on background work to deliver timely alerts. The Vivo PD2405F manual describes those tradeoffs, but behavior can differ by model. Test the app while Battery Saver is enabled; if its alerts are delayed, turn the mode off or restore that app’s background allowance if available.
How do I let WhatsApp run in the background on Vivo?
Look in Settings for a battery or high-background-power control, then allow background operation for WhatsApp if your model offers that option. Menu paths vary; a Vivo India community post dated November 1, 2022, lists Settings > Battery > High background power usage for Funtouch OS 3.0 and later, but this historical path may not match your phone. Keep WhatsApp notifications enabled as well, and test by locking the phone and asking someone to send a message.
Will restricting an app stop all of its notifications?
Not necessarily, but background restrictions may delay alerts that rely on the app doing work while it is not open. The effect can differ by app and phone. Keep the background allowance for apps whose alerts are time-sensitive, and test before relying on a restriction.
Can notification history tell me why an alert is missing?
Where available, history can show recent or snoozed notifications and help you check whether an alert was displayed, hidden, or dismissed. It cannot prove that an alert reached the phone or identify every cause of a missing one. If it is absent, also check the app’s notification settings and consider app-side or network issues.
Best Value
How much extra battery life will these changes give me?
There is no supported universal figure. Vivo says battery-consumption estimates can vary with usage, and the reviewed manuals do not establish a model-independent runtime gain. Compare your own usage over similar periods after changing one setting at a time instead of expecting a fixed number of hours.
Should I turn off 5G to preserve notifications and battery?
Vivo flags 5G among contexts to inspect, but that does not mean it is the cause of drain on every phone. Do not disable mobile connectivity wholesale if you depend on it for calls or alerts. Check your battery-usage pattern and consider only options available for your model and carrier; test essential notifications after any change.
