To make a Samsung Galaxy Tab last longer between charges, first check which apps are using the most battery, then reduce unnecessary background activity. Lowering screen demand, switching off connections you are not using, and enabling Power saving can also help—but the best settings and their effects vary by model and software.
Find what is draining the battery
Start with the battery-usage screen rather than changing several settings at once. Open Settings → Battery, or search Settings for “Battery” if the menu differs. Review the usage list for apps consuming more power than you would expect for how much you used them. Samsung’s guidance notes that menu names and available controls vary by model, region, carrier, and software version. If the tablet is new or has just been set up, battery use may be higher for the first few days while apps and services optimize. Samsung UK recommends allowing for that adjustment period before judging normal runtime. Samsung UK’s battery-drain guidance also covers other causes such as weak signal and battery wear.
Limit background activity without missing important alerts
Update apps and software
Install available app and system updates. Updates can address issues that contribute to unusual battery use. If one app remains near the top of the battery list despite little use, update it and check its own background-activity and notification settings.

Put infrequently used apps to sleep
Where your tablet supports it, use its battery or device-care controls to place rarely used apps into sleep or deep sleep. Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background and generally work only when you open them. That can delay notifications, syncing, or other background tasks. Keep messaging, alarms, security, and other time-sensitive apps out of deep sleep if they need to stay active.

Choose Power saving for the right situation
Power saving is useful when you need extra time away from a charger—for example, while travelling or during a long reading session—and can accept some limits on performance or background functions. Samsung says the mode can restrict background data and other features; app updates, notifications, performance, and sometimes location may be affected. After enabling it, check that essential apps still behave as you need them to.

- Screen: Lower brightness when comfortable and consider Adaptive brightness if available. The screen’s demand depends on how it is being used, so adjust it to the task rather than expecting a fixed saving.
- Connections: Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or location services when you do not need them. Avoid disabling a connection that an app or accessory relies on.
- Weak signal: Network conditions can matter. If mobile connectivity is enabled and signal is poor, the tablet may use more power maintaining a connection. Consider Wi-Fi or offline use where appropriate.
- Syncing and notifications: Review apps that sync or send frequent notifications, and limit background work when continuous updates are unnecessary.

Know when settings cannot solve the problem
Battery capacity declines with repeated charging and discharging. Samsung UK states: “The battery is a consumable component. With repeated charging and discharging, its capacity will gradually decrease, and the reduced capacity cannot be restored.” If runtime remains poor after checking usage and unnecessary background activity, the battery may have worn.
