To export the package files for an Euro Truck Simulator 2 dedicated server, enable the developer console, load the profile and map setup you want to host, then run export_server_packages while you are in the driving world. ETS2 creates a matched server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat pair in the game-home folder. Copy both files to the dedicated server’s ETS2 home/data directory—the folder containing server_config.sii—and restart the server.

What an ETS2 server package export does
The export captures the active client setup that the dedicated server must recognize. The pair records the map, installed downloadable content (DLC), and enabled mods associated with the profile you loaded when you ran the command.

SCS describes both files as necessary for a dedicated server to start. If either file is absent, comes from a different export, or is uploaded to the wrong directory, the server may fail to start or report missing package data.
The dedicated server does not independently download Workshop content, mods, or DLC. The exported package data tells it what the hosted setup expects; players still need a compatible client installation, including the same mods in the same load order.

Before you export: requirements and decisions
Use the client setup you actually intend to host
Export from the ETS2 installation and profile whose map, DLC, and mod combination should be available on the server. The command reads the setup that is active in the loaded game world, not a profile sitting at the main menu.
Know the two directories involved
- Game-home folder: the ETS2 home directory containing the client’s
config.cfg. This is where the game writes the exported package files. - Dedicated-server home/data directory: the server-side ETS2 directory containing
server_config.sii. This is where both exported files must be uploaded.
Those directories can be on different machines. If ETS2 is not installed on the server machine, export on the client and transfer the files manually.

Prepare a safe transfer
Plan to stop the dedicated server before replacing its package files, or use the host’s documented maintenance/restart procedure. Upload the two files as one pair, then restart so the server reads the new package data in a single startup.
Step-by-step: export the package files
1. Enable the developer console
- Open the ETS2 game-home folder.
- Open
config.cfgin a plain-text editor. - Find the console setting and set it exactly to
uset g_console "1". - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
This setting enables the in-game developer console. If the console was already enabled, verify the value in the config.cfg belonging to the ETS2 installation you are launching; changing a different copy has no effect.
2. Load the profile and map
- Start ETS2.
- Select the profile containing the map, DLC, and mods for the server.
- Enter the driving world so the map is fully loaded.
Remain in the world for the export. Running the command from the main menu does not provide the loaded map context it requires.

3. Open the console
Press the tilde key, shown as ~ on a standard keyboard, to open the developer console. Keyboard layouts can place this key differently, but it is the key that produces the tilde character on the layout used by the game.

Enter the following command and confirm it:
export_server_packagesETS2 also documents a form that accepts a destination-file argument. The bare command is the least ambiguous choice when you want the normal game-home output. If you deliberately use a custom destination, make sure you still identify and transfer the resulting .sii and .dat files together.
5. Locate the generated pair
After the command completes, open the game-home folder again. Look for these exact filenames:
server_packages.siiserver_packages.dat
Keep the files from this single export together. Do not substitute an older .sii file for a newer .dat file, or the reverse.
Install the export on a dedicated server
1. Stop or place the server in maintenance mode
Use the control panel’s stop/restart controls or the host’s documented maintenance process before replacing package files. This prevents the server from reading one file while the other is being uploaded.

2. Open the ETS2 server home/data directory
Use the provider’s file manager, SFTP access, or another supported file-transfer method. The correct directory is the one that already contains server_config.sii. Do not place the files in a generic home directory, a client-only mod folder, or a directory used by another game instance.
3. Upload both files
Transfer server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat to that directory. Preserve the spelling, underscores, and lowercase extensions. If files with those names already exist, replace them as a pair.
4. Start the server and read the startup result
Restart the dedicated server after both uploads finish. A successful startup indicates that the server can read its package data. If it reports a missing package file, return to the directory check rather than exporting again immediately.

The package files are configuration/data references for the server’s expected setup. They are not a substitute for keeping the player-side content synchronized.

After any mod-list change
Run the export again whenever you add, remove, enable, disable, or reorder a mod that the server should use. Upload the newly generated pair together and restart the server. Players should then adjust their own mod lists to match the server’s expected order.

After a relevant game or map update
Repeat the export after an ETS2 update or map update that could change package data. Even if the visible mod list appears unchanged, a changed map or game build can make the previous package pair stale.
When moving the server
If you migrate to another machine or hosting provider, copy both files to the new directory containing that instance’s server_config.sii. The package export is portable as a pair, but the destination still has to be the correct ETS2 server home/data directory.

Troubleshooting export and startup problems
The tilde key does not open a console
- Close ETS2 and reopen the
config.cfgin the game-home folder for the installation you actually launch. - Confirm the line is
uset g_console "1", including the value1and the quotation marks. - Save the file, start ETS2 again, load a profile, and test the tilde key in the driving world.
If another configuration file was edited, the game will continue using its original console setting.
The command does nothing or fails
- Check that a profile is loaded and you are driving in the world, not at the main menu.
- Verify that the map has finished loading before opening the console.
- Run the command exactly as
export_server_packages, without changing the underscores.
The export requires a loaded map, so reaching the world is the decisive prerequisite.
The files cannot be found
- Return to the client’s game-home folder—the location containing
config.cfg. - Search for the exact names
server_packages.siiandserver_packages.dat. - If you used a custom destination-file form, check the destination you selected rather than assuming the default folder.
Do not upload a similarly named file from an older server backup unless both files are known to come from the same export.
The dedicated server says a package file is missing
- Stop the server.
- Open the server’s ETS2 home/data directory.
- Confirm that both exact filenames are beside
server_config.sii. - Check that the upload did not add an extra extension or alter capitalization.
- Restart the server after both files are present.
If the files are in a parent folder, a client mod folder, or another game’s directory, the server will not find them.
Players receive missing-content or mismatch errors
First determine whether the server’s active setup changed. If it did, export again from the updated client profile, upload the new pair together, and restart. Players then need the same mods in the same load order; the server cannot fetch the missing content for them.
The server starts but uses an unexpected setup
Recheck which client profile was loaded at export time. The package files reflect that active profile’s map, DLC, and mods, so exporting from a different profile produces a different server expectation. Generate a new pair from the intended profile and replace both server-side files.
Choosing a hosting arrangement for ETS2 packages
The export itself is performed in the ETS2 client, but the hosting arrangement determines how reliably you can install and refresh the result. Evaluate these operational capabilities before choosing a provider:

A managed host can simplify file access and restarts, but it does not remove the need to export from the correct profile or keep players’ mod configurations compatible.
Repeatable maintenance checklist
- Update the client profile’s map, DLC, or mod list.
- Load that profile into the driving world.
- Run
export_server_packages. - Confirm that the new
server_packages.siiandserver_packages.datbelong to the same export. - Stop the dedicated server or use maintenance mode.
- Upload both files beside
server_config.sii. - Restart the server.
- Tell players which compatible mods and load order the server now expects.
Following this sequence after each relevant change keeps the package definition, server startup, and player setup aligned.
