You can export selected records or the full list, then open the downloaded file in a spreadsheet to review its publication and citation data.
Export articles from a Google Scholar profile
- Open and check the profile. Review the publication list first. Google Scholar profile owners can add, edit, delete, and merge entries; correcting errors before export helps avoid carrying them into your spreadsheet. See Google Scholar’s Profiles help and the University of California Office of Scholarly Communication guide.
- Select publications. Use the checkbox beside an individual article to select it. To select the whole profile list, use the checkbox beside the Title heading. For long profiles, scroll down and click Show More until all entries are loaded before selecting; the UC guide warns that the initial selection may include only the first twenty or so publications.
- Export as CSV. Click Export, then choose CSV. The UC guide says the downloaded file is named
citations.csvunless you rename it. - Open and review the file. Open the CSV in a spreadsheet application such as Excel or Google Sheets. Check that the intended publications are present and look for duplicate or inaccurate records.
If the article-selection checkboxes are missing, sign in to the Google account that created the profile, as described in Google’s profile help.

Choose CSV or another export format
CSV is the practical choice when you want a tabular publication inventory for a spreadsheet. Google Scholar’s profile export also offers BibTeX, EndNote, and RefMan formats. Choose based on the software receiving the records: check its supported import formats before exporting.
Recommended Free Tools
| Format | Use it when |
|---|---|
| CSV | You need spreadsheet columns or a tabular publication list. |
| BibTeX | Your destination accepts BibTeX. Santa Clara University documents importing Scholar-exported BibTeX into Interfolio Faculty180 in its Faculty180 guide. |
| RefMan/RIS | Your reference manager expects RIS. Drew University documents importing a Google Scholar RefMan file into EndNote in its Google Scholar import guide. |
| EndNote | Google lists this as an export option; confirm that your destination accepts it in the format you select. |
Check the CSV before relying on it
A CSV is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that every profile record is complete or correct. Compare the exported list with the profile and verify any entries that matter for formal reporting. If you find an error, correct the record in Google Scholar and export a fresh file; editing only the spreadsheet leaves the source profile unchanged, so the same issue can recur in a later export. The UC Office of Scholarly Communication’s profile guidance recommends checking for omissions and correcting source-profile errors.
