For One UI 7 and newer, start at Contacts > More options > Settings > Export contacts. SIM copies may keep only names and phone numbers, so use a full backup or Smart Switch if you need to move an entire contact book.

Open the Contacts app.

Tap More options (the three-dot icon), then Settings.

Tap Export contacts and choose the SIM card as the destination if it is offered.

Select the contacts to export, then follow the prompts to confirm the SIM destination and export.
A Samsung France example updated 25 November 2025 shows this export route on a Galaxy S24 FE running One UI 8.0 and Android 16. In that example, the user selects all or chosen contacts, taps Done, chooses the SIM destination, exports, and confirms. Use the older Contacts menu if your phone does not show that path
On older software, Samsung’s documented route is through contact management. Depending on the phone, the menu may be a three-line icon at the upper left or a three-dot icon at the upper right; names and placement differ by OS and model. Open Contacts and tap the menu icon.

Choose Manage contacts, then Import or export contacts.

Tap Export, then choose SIM card.

Select the contacts, tap Done, then Export and confirm.
If your screen uses different labels, follow the closest export option shown on your phone. Do not continue if the action says Move and you intend to keep the original contacts where they are.

What a SIM export keeps—and what it may lose
A SIM copy is a basic contact transfer, not a complete backup. Samsung warns that the name and phone number may be copied while other contact information may be lost; names or numbers that are too long may be cut off. Samsung’s SIM export warning
SIM storage is limited, and Samsung’s support information does not give a numeric contact capacity for this procedure. If your contact book contains more entries than the SIM can hold, the full set may not fit. Samsung recommends Smart Switch for transferring a complete contact book when changing phones. Exporting or copying leaves the contacts in their original location as well as on the SIM. Moving contacts removes them from the original location. Because menu wording varies, read the confirmation screen and make sure it says Export or otherwise clearly indicates copying before proceeding if you want to retain the originals. Choose the right method for your goal

Quick, basic transfer: Export to SIM if your phone offers it and names and numbers are all you need.

Full contact transfer or backup: Keep a full copy and use Smart Switch for a complete migration rather than relying on the SIM.

SIM is not listed: Your device or software may not offer SIM export through that menu. Check the labels under Contacts settings or use another supported transfer method rather than assuming a missing option is a fault.
