Can I export all my Apple Notes to Markdown at once?
MacMost’s September 17, 2026 newsletter describes a Club MacMost tutorial for saving all Notes as small Markdown text files in macOS Tahoe and Golden Gate. It characterizes the approach as manual but quick, with images saved as separate files. The newsletter does not specify the detailed steps or establish batch-selection behavior, so the documented single-note menu path above should not be mistaken for a confirmed one-click export of an entire library.
The newsletter describes the result as Markdown files plus separate image files. Keep the related files together when organizing or moving an export; the available description does not explain how every attachment or other note element is represented.

Can a Shortcut automate the export?
MacMost says a similar workflow can be made with an automated Shortcut, but its newsletter synopsis does not provide the Shortcut recipe or establish its exact scope, reliability, or handling of every Notes feature. It therefore isn’t possible to give verified setup steps from that description. If you use a Shortcut described elsewhere, check its output against the notes and images you intended to export rather than assuming it captured everything.

The cited descriptions establish a way to create portable Markdown exports, not a guaranteed full-fidelity backup. They do not establish that the exports preserve all Notes metadata, links, attachments, or other features, or that the files can recreate the original library exactly. Keep this distinction in mind if you need a dependable recovery copy.

Can I import Markdown files back into Notes?
Apple documents importing one or more Markdown files into Notes. Apple also says that in macOS Tahoe 26, iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and later, Notes converts Markdown syntax to rich text when Markdown files are imported. That supports bringing Markdown-formatted content into Notes; it is not a promise that the import restores every original note attribute or attachment. See Apple’s Markdown import guidance.
