How to Export a Playlist from YouTube Music to Another Service

Playlist exports usually copy track references, not audio. Learn how to transfer a YouTube Music playlist, choose a migration tool, and check missing tracks.

To move a playlist, use the destination music service’s built-in import tool if it supports YouTube Music; otherwise use a playlist-transfer service such as TuneMyMusic or Soundiiz. These tools copy track references into the destination’s catalog—not audio files—and a transfer may omit songs that cannot be matched. Your original playlist stays where it is.

What “export” means when moving a playlist

In most cases, exporting a playlist means copying its song list and matching those tracks in another service’s catalog. It does not download or transfer the audio files. The destination creates its own playlist, so songs may be missing if that service does not carry an equivalent recording. The source playlist is not deleted, and edits generally do not sync automatically between services.

If you mean moving a playlist from YouTube Music to another service, check the destination’s official help for a native import option. For transfers into YouTube Music, Google documents a built-in route for supported source services. Availability depends on the services involved, region, app version, and account authorization.

  1. Open YouTube Music and tap your profile icon.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy & data.
  3. Tap Transfer playlists from other apps, then Let’s start.
  4. Choose and sign in to the source music service, then grant the access requested for the transfer.
  5. Select the playlists you want to copy and start the transfer.
  6. When prompted, sign in to the Google Account that should receive the playlists and authorize the destination.
  7. After the transfer finishes, check your YouTube Music library and review any missing-track notice or transfer report.

Google says larger libraries can take longer and a transfer can run in the background; you do not need to leave the app or page open. The source playlist remains in its original service, and changes made later in YouTube Music do not automatically sync back. Google also states that podcasts cannot be imported or exported with YouTube Music. See Google’s YouTube Music playlist-transfer instructions.

Choose a transfer route

Route Best suited for What to check
Destination app’s built-in import Moving into a service that offers a native import from your source. Whether it supports your source service, country, app version, and account type. Follow the destination’s current official instructions.
TuneMyMusic Cross-service transfers, or importing from a playlist URL, text, or file. It reports tracks it cannot match. Its FAQ states a free allowance of up to 500 tracks and TXT/CSV export; check its current terms before starting.
Soundiiz Cross-service transfers and reviewing matched or skipped items. Its Free plan allows eligible transfers one playlist at a time, with up to 200 selected tracks per playlist. Batch transfers and transfers of favorites, albums, or artists require a paid plan.

TuneMyMusic describes its transfer workflow and supported services at TuneMyMusic; its current plan details are in its FAQ. Soundiiz documents its transfer workflow and limits in its playlist-transfer guide. These limits can change, so verify them on the service before relying on them.

Use a third-party tool for a cross-service transfer

  1. Check the destination first. If it has a built-in import path for your source, that is the most direct route. Otherwise, check whether TuneMyMusic or Soundiiz supports both services and the type of content you want to move.
  2. Confirm the accounts. Sign in to the correct source account and destination account, including the right family profile if applicable. Soundiiz says users need access to both accounts, sufficient destination space, and any source subscription required to access the library. Some platforms require a paid subscription for transfer access; see Soundiiz’s account-connection guidance.
  3. Connect the source and select content. Grant the permissions requested by the transfer service, then select the playlist or other eligible content. If you are using a URL, text, or file, confirm it points to the intended playlist and contains the complete track list.
  4. Select the destination and start the copy. The tool recreates the playlist by matching tracks in the destination’s catalog. It does not move the audio files.
  5. Review the results. Check the destination playlist and the tool’s skipped, unmatched, or missing-track report. Search for omissions manually, especially when the precise recording or release matters.

Google notes that third-party transfer services are not guaranteed by Google, and Google cannot assist with disputes between a user and a third-party provider. Read the provider’s current permissions and terms before connecting your accounts.

Why tracks can be missing or different

A transfer depends on the destination having a catalog entry the tool can match. A track may not appear, or may resolve to a different version, for several reasons:

  • Brand Yourself - Brand the flash drive with your company's name and provide company's overview, policies, etc. to the newly joined employees or your customers
  • The destination service does not have the recording, or it is unavailable in your region.
  • The same song is listed under different metadata, an alternate title, or a different artist credit.
  • The destination has another release, edit, or remaster, and the exact version is not available or cannot be identified confidently.
  • The source entry lacks an identifier that makes an exact catalog match possible.

Do not assume a successful transfer reproduced the playlist perfectly. Compare the destination against the original and search for skipped songs yourself. TuneMyMusic says it flags missing tracks and can provide a report; Soundiiz exposes skipped items for review.

Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer

  • The wrong playlists or library appear: Disconnect and reconnect the accounts, checking that you chose the correct login and family profile.
  • The source service is unavailable or access is denied: Confirm that the service is supported and that the account has any subscription the source requires for library access. Review the permissions prompt and reconnect if authorization expired.
  • The transfer stops at a track limit: Check the provider’s current free-plan limits. Split a large playlist into smaller lists if the tool allows it, or choose a route whose current limits fit your library.
  • Some tracks are skipped or replaced: Use the report or skipped-items view, then search the destination catalog for the exact title, artist, and release. Add the right version manually where available.
  • The destination playlist is missing or incomplete: Confirm you authorized the intended destination account, allow time for a large background transfer to finish, then refresh the destination library and check the transfer status.
  • The transfer errors despite correct account access: Check the service’s status and retry later. Temporary API or authorization problems can interrupt a transfer; reconnecting may be necessary.
