For report-ready tiled screenshots, capture the page in a browser at a fixed window size, scroll down by slightly less than one viewport height, and save each image in order. The overlap helps readers follow text across panels. If you need one continuous image instead, Firefox can save a full-page screenshot; if the report needs pagination, export a PDF and inspect its page breaks.
Choose tiles, one full-page image, or PDF
Pick the format based on how readers will use the report, not just on what is easiest to capture.

| Report need | Good fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Show the whole page as one visual | Firefox’s full-page screenshot | A very tall image can be awkward to place or read in a paginated report. |
| Use several manageable image panels | Repeated viewport screenshots with consistent size and a small overlap | You must keep the panels ordered and check that content is neither missed nor duplicated. |
| Print or deliver a paginated document | PDF export | Print styling and page breaks can differ from the live page, so review the exported file. |
Prepare the page before capturing
- Open the page at the width and zoom level intended for the report. Keep both consistent for every tile.
- Let the page load, then scroll through it once if necessary to expose content that loads as you move down. This is a practical precaution; browser documentation does not guarantee how every dynamic or lazy-loaded page will behave.
- Choose an output format and check the destination report’s image-size and privacy requirements before sharing.
Capture tiles in Firefox
Firefox’s built-in screenshot interface can save the visible area or a full page as an image. To make tiles, capture the visible viewport repeatedly as you move down the page.

- Right-click an empty area and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose the visible-page capture option and save the image.
- Scroll down by slightly less than the viewport height, then repeat. The overlapping strip gives readers visual context between images.
- Save files with ordered names such as
page-001.pngandpage-002.png, preserving the top-to-bottom sequence.
To make one tall image instead, choose Save full page in the screenshot interface. Mozilla documents this as an image download. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for full-page capture
If the screenshot control is unavailable, Firefox Developer Tools can enable a toolbox button labeled Take a screenshot of the entire page. The Web Console’s :screenshot helper also supports full-page capture, a delay, device-pixel-ratio selection, and a filename. Consult Firefox Developer Tools screenshot documentation for the current controls and syntax.
These are full-page options rather than a prescribed tile workflow. For tiled output, repeated viewport captures provide more control over panel boundaries and file order.
Capture consistent viewport tiles with Chrome Headless
Chrome Headless supports viewport screenshots with --screenshot and --window-size=WIDTH,HEIGHT. Use the same dimensions for each viewport capture and change the scroll position between captures. Google’s command-line reference documents these options; it does not prescribe a standard tile overlap.

For example, capture a viewport image of a page with:
chrome --headless --window-size=1280,900 --screenshot=page-001.png https://example.com
This captures the page at the requested window size. To make multiple tiles, capture successive scroll positions, keeping the viewport dimensions unchanged. The exact way to set and preserve a scroll position depends on how you automate Chrome; the command above by itself captures one viewport, not a numbered series of scrolled tiles. Review Chrome Headless command-line documentation for options and behavior.
Export a PDF in Chrome Headless
If a paginated report is more useful than image panels, Chrome Headless can print a page to PDF. The following command suppresses the date/time header and URL/page-number footer:

- BROAD COMPATIBILITY – Works with both Windows and Mac devices, be it laptop or computer
chrome --headless --print-to-pdf=report.pdf --no-pdf-header-footer https://example.com
Chrome also documents a --timeout option to limit how long capture waits while page content is loading. A PDF’s layout may differ from the page on screen because of print styling and page breaks, so inspect the saved file before delivery. Review and assemble the report images
- Check that every tile is in top-to-bottom order and filenames sort in that order.
- Look for blank sections, missing content, or accidental gaps between panels.
- Check overlaps for repeated or skipped text, and watch for sticky headers that appear in multiple tiles.
- Confirm that small text remains readable at the size used in the report.
- Recapture affected sections when a page element obscures or interrupts the content.
- Add the page title, source URL, and capture date or time in a caption or accompanying notes so readers can identify the source.
These checks are quality-control advice, not a guarantee that a browser will render every dynamic page correctly.
Consider a full-page screenshot extension
A browser extension can offer a point-and-click alternative. The GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing describes full-page capture and a feature history that includes PDF export and splitting long captures. Its current options may change, so check the listing before relying on a specific export feature. The listing alone does not establish that an extension is free, private, or appropriate for sensitive pages. See the GoFullPage listing in the Chrome Web Store.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use a full-page image or tiles in a report?
Use a full-page image for continuous visual context, tiles when separate panels are easier to place or read, and PDF when pagination or printing matters.
How much should successive screenshot tiles overlap?
Move down slightly less than one viewport height. There is no documented standard overlap amount; adjust it to keep transitions easy to follow.
