How to Exclude Ads and Rotating Content from ChangeTower Alerts

Select noisy regions in ChangeTower’s Ignore Elements setup to exclude them from page-change alerts, then check the red-highlighted selection before saving.

To stop ads, carousels, banners, or other noisy page areas from triggering ChangeTower alerts, create a single-page monitor and use Advanced Configuration → Ignore Elements. Select the unwanted regions in the setup screenshot, save the selection, then finish creating the monitor. ChangeTower says changes inside ignored areas will not trigger notifications.

Exclude noisy areas with Ignore Elements

  1. Create a single-page monitor for the page you want to track.
  2. Open Advanced Configuration and choose Ignore Elements.
  3. In the page screenshot shown during setup, click each region you do not want included in change detection. This can include ad slots, rotating carousels, promotional banners, cookie or consent modals, chat widgets, social feeds, clocks, view counts, or other changing content.
  4. Save the selection. Ignored regions are highlighted in red; check that the highlight covers the noisy area and not important content. Use Edit to adjust it if needed.
  5. Complete the remaining monitor options and create the monitor.

ChangeTower Help Center describes this as monitoring the full page while excluding specific elements from change detection: ChangeTower Help Center.

Choose between ignoring areas and monitoring only selected areas

Selective monitoring has two modes: mark areas to ignore, or mark the elements to monitor. ChangeTower’s feature description says one mode applies per monitor. Use Ignore Elements when most of the page matters and only a few regions generate noise. If just one small part matters, selecting only that region can make the scope clearer. See ChangeTower’s feature information.

Use the right control for the alert you want

Control What it filters When it helps
Ignore Elements Changes within selected page regions Ads, carousels, and other areas change often but are irrelevant.
Word-change threshold How many words must change before an alert is sent You want to suppress small text changes across the monitored scope. It does not exclude a noisy region.
Keyword monitoring Changes tied to a particular word or phrase You only need to know when specific wording appears or changes.
Smart Monitor Changes matching natural-language criteria You want alerts about a described kind of change rather than every change in the remaining page.

ChangeTower’s original Selective Monitoring guidance describes its word threshold as the number of changed words required to send an alert. Treat that as a separate control from excluding page regions. Keyword monitoring and Smart Monitor are described in ChangeTower’s FAQ; selective monitoring can optionally be used with Smart Monitor, according to its Smart Monitor instructions.

Check cadence and plan availability

Monitoring frequency and feature access depend on the ChangeTower plan and monitor settings. Its FAQ lists daily checks for Free and Lite, hourly checks for Essential, checks every 20 minutes for Business, and a user-set schedule for Enterprise. Confirm the current plan details and your account’s monitor settings before relying on a particular interval; plan terms can change. Check ChangeTower’s current FAQ.

Troubleshooting ignored regions

  • You still receive alerts about an ad or banner: reopen the monitor with Edit, inspect the red-highlighted ignored region, and expand or reposition the selection to cover the changing area.
  • An important change is missing: the ignored selection may include content you care about. Edit the region to narrow it, or switch to monitoring only the relevant element if the page is mostly noise.
  • Alerts continue after excluding a region: check whether the change is outside the selected area. A word threshold may reduce sensitivity to small changes, but it does not exclude that area; review the selective-monitor settings separately.
  • The options or schedule differ in your account: feature access and check cadence vary by plan. Verify the current plan and settings in ChangeTower rather than assuming an interval.

For a one-off screenshot rather than ongoing ChangeTower alerts, ScreenshotNeo can return an image or PDF with one request. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
