To evaluate Intel stock, look beyond revenue growth or a single quarter’s profit. Assess what is driving sales, whether margin gains come from repeatable product economics, whether Intel Foundry can win external business at a profit, and how much cash remains after the investment needed to build its manufacturing business. As of October 4, 2026, the latest reported quarter in the cited company filings is Q2 2026, ended June 27.
Intel reported strong year-over-year revenue growth and higher gross margin in that quarter, alongside a substantial GAAP net loss and a large Intel Foundry operating loss. Those results describe operating performance; they do not establish whether the shares are cheap or expensive.

What did Intel report in Q2 2026?
Intel’s July 23, 2026 earnings release reported $16.1 billion in revenue, up 25% year over year. GAAP gross margin was 40.4%, compared with 27.5% in Q2 2025; non-GAAP gross margin was 41.8%, compared with 29.7%. Intel reported a GAAP net loss attributable to Intel of $11.0 billion and non-GAAP net income of $2.2 billion. Cash from operations was $7.0 billion for the quarter. These are Intel-reported figures, not independent estimates.
| Measure | Q2 2026 | Comparison or context |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $16.1 billion | Up 25% year over year |
| GAAP gross margin | 40.4% | 27.5% in Q2 2025 |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 41.8% | 29.7% in Q2 2025 |
| GAAP net income (loss) attributable to Intel | -$11.0 billion | Non-GAAP net income was $2.2 billion |
| Cash from operations | $7.0 billion | Quarterly amount |
All figures in the table are from Intel’s July 23, 2026 second-quarter earnings release. Intel forecast Q3 2026 revenue of $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion; that was company guidance, not a reported result. The company’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, characterized Q2 as its strongest revenue growth in more than 15 years. That is management’s characterization, not an independent ranking.

How do I evaluate Intel stock revenue growth?
Start with the sales increase, then ask whether it came from more units, higher average selling prices, a richer product mix, stronger demand, or improved supply. These drivers have different implications for repeatability. Intel’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q said client revenue benefited from higher average selling prices even as client unit volume fell 8% year over year. Server volume rose 9%, while server average selling prices increased 48%; Intel said most of that price increase reflected a richer mix of premium products.
Intel also said demand exceeded available supply because of factory and broader industry constraints, which it expected to persist into 2027. Revenue growth under those conditions is not the same as unrestricted demand growth: limited supply can constrain the units Intel ships, and the mix or prices supporting one quarter may change. Track volume, average selling price, and product mix separately where Intel discloses them, rather than extrapolating the headline growth rate.
Adjust for portfolio changes
Comparisons also need a consistent business perimeter. Intel deconsolidated Altera from its consolidated financial statements effective September 12, 2025, after selling 51% of its shares. Intel flags the change as affecting year-over-year comparability. Consider its effect before attributing all changes in consolidated or segment results to underlying demand.

Does Intel’s higher gross margin show durable improvement?
The margin increase is meaningful, but its composition matters. Intel’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q attributed the $1.5 billion year-over-year increase in product profit and a separate $1.5 billion reduction in period charges to the improvement in GAAP gross margin. The lower charges included the absence of $797 million in non-cash impairment and accelerated depreciation recognized in Q2 2025, partly offset by an inventory-related charge in Q2 2026.
That means the 40.4% Q2 GAAP margin reflects both product economics and changes in charges; it should not be treated as a clean measure of recurring improvement by itself. For evidence of durability, examine several quarters and separate recurring product profit from period charges.
- Look for sustained improvement in product profit and unit economics, not just a favorable year-over-year comparison.
- Follow product mix, wafer costs, factory utilization, and restructuring savings, which can affect the margin Intel can maintain.
- Review GAAP and non-GAAP figures together. Non-GAAP results are adjusted measures, not replacements for reported GAAP results; use Intel’s reconciliation to see which items were excluded.
Is Intel Foundry making progress as a business?
Separate manufacturing milestones from evidence of a profitable, externally funded foundry business. Intel’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q said that its first products made on Intel 18A entered high-volume production at the start of 2026, and that the Intel 18A-P derivative entered risk production in June 2026. Intel also committed during Q2 to completing development of Intel 14A. The company said the pace of expansion would ultimately depend on committed demand from its own product roadmap and external-customer design wins.

These are company disclosures about manufacturing status and plans. By themselves, they do not establish yield, cost competitiveness, or future customer volumes. A node milestone shows progress in a manufacturing roadmap; commercial viability also depends on customers, production economics, and the ability to earn returns on substantial investment.

Separate external revenue from internal activity
Intel Foundry reported $5.765 billion in Q2 2026 revenue, but $5.5 billion was intersegment revenue and only $293 million was external revenue. The segment recorded a $2.1 billion operating loss. Because segment revenue includes internal transactions, the $5.765 billion total should not be read as sales to outside customers. The external portion remained small relative to the segment total, and the segment was loss-making.
For subsequent quarters, track external revenue and customer commitments separately from total Foundry revenue. Also follow operating losses, wafer costs, utilization, yields, and capital spending. A growing internal manufacturing operation may support Intel Products, but it is not the same evidence as scaled external demand or a profitable third-party foundry business.

Can Intel generate enough cash to fund its fabs?
Compare operating cash generation with capital investment, then account for the other sources and uses of funding. For the six months ended June 27, 2026, Intel reported $8.102 billion of cash from operating activities and $6.192 billion of cash additions to property, plant, and equipment. Subtracting those two reported amounts gives about $1.910 billion before capital-related incentives, partner contributions, finance-lease payments, and other investing or financing cash flows. This simple subtraction is not Intel’s adjusted free cash flow measure.
Intel’s FY2025 Form 10-K reported $9.697 billion in operating cash flow and negative $1.612 billion in adjusted free cash flow. Adjusted free cash flow is a company-defined non-GAAP measure. Intel’s reconciliation accounts for operating cash flow, net property, plant, and equipment additions, capital incentives, net SCIP contributions, and finance-lease payments. Use that reconciliation rather than assuming the company’s measure is simply operating cash flow minus capital expenditure.

This was a dated commitment disclosure; it does not mean that all of that cash had already been spent.

Reconcile cash flow with reported earnings
Quarterly net income alone can give a misleading view of cash generation. Intel’s Q2 2026 GAAP net loss included a $13.619 billion mark-to-market loss on Escrowed Shares in the first half of 2026, while cash from operations for Q2 was $7.0 billion. The loss and cash-flow figures cover different periods and measures: consider noncash items and working-capital movements alongside investment, partner transactions, debt, and capital leases.
Intel said in its Q2 release that it was meaningfully increasing investment in equipment, clean-room space, and substrates. The central funding question is whether recurring operating cash generation can support the manufacturing roadmap as investment needs rise, or whether incentives, partners, borrowing, asset transactions, or other financing will remain important. A positive operating-cash-flow figure does not answer that question on its own.
How do I connect Intel’s operating results to its share valuation?
Operating performance cannot establish that a stock is cheap or expensive without a dated market price and valuation assumptions. The cited filings establish reported results and management guidance; they do not provide an October 4, 2026 share price or a fair value estimate.

Scenario analysis can test how a conclusion changes with product growth and mix, normalized gross margins, external Foundry wins or losses, capital intensity, and the time new manufacturing nodes take to earn returns. What risks could change the evaluation?
Intel’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q cautions that historical results may not reliably indicate future performance. Material risks for this framework include:
- Product supply limits lasting longer than expected or constraining revenue.
- Failure to improve manufacturing yields or costs, or delays and execution problems in node and facility plans.
- Continued Intel Foundry losses or weak external demand despite technical milestones.
- Capital requirements exceeding internally generated cash or relying on financing support that is unavailable or less favorable.
- Portfolio and accounting changes, including Altera’s deconsolidation, making period-to-period comparisons less representative.
Use the Q2 2026 Form 10-Q for segment, cash-flow, and manufacturing disclosures; Intel’s July 23, 2026 earnings release for results and Q3 guidance; and Intel’s FY2025 Form 10-K, filed January 23, 2026, for the annual cash-flow reconciliation and capital commitments. Company filings are the primary sources for the figures above, but reported operating facts are not a substitute for a valuation based on current market data.
