To password-protect a Samsung T9 Portable SSD, use Samsung Magician: connect the drive, open Magician, select the T9, and use its security or password settings to enable protection and set a password. Samsung says the T9 uses AES 256-bit hardware encryption. This is a drive-level security feature, not a password on an individual folder.
What you need before setting a password
- The Samsung T9 Portable SSD connected to your computer or supported device.
- The current Samsung Magician release, downloaded from Samsung’s official software support page. Samsung says its Portable SSD Software is integrated into Magician, and its Magician listing identifies T9 support and password-setting management.
- A password you can securely record and retrieve later. T9-specific recovery steps for a forgotten password have not been established in the cited Samsung materials.
Samsung lists Windows, macOS, and Android as compatible platforms. Its T9 product information lists minimum versions of Windows 10, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, and Android 5.1; verify current requirements on Samsung’s download page because software support can change. Compatibility with a device for using the SSD does not necessarily mean that device can run Magician or manage its password.

How to set a password on the Samsung T9
- Install or update Samsung Magician. Get the current release from Samsung’s official support page and check that it supports your operating system.
- Connect the T9 and open Magician. Select the drive if it appears in the app. If it does not, confirm the SSD is connected and that your installed Magician version supports your operating system; do not assume another device can administer its security.
- Open the T9’s security or password settings. Enable the security feature and create and confirm a password when the current app prompts you. Labels and prompts may vary by operating system and Magician version, so follow what the app displays rather than relying on a fixed button sequence.
- Record the password securely before disconnecting the drive. The available T9-specific Samsung materials do not confirm a forgotten-password recovery method or whether a reset preserves files.
- Follow any prompts to disconnect or reconnect the drive, then verify the lock. Confirm that the T9 requests the password before treating setup as complete. Disconnect and reconnect only if Magician’s current workflow asks you to do so.
What the T9’s encryption does—and does not mean
Samsung specifies AES 256-bit hardware encryption for the T9 and says the drive can be secured with an encrypted password. Magician manages that drive security and its password settings. This is separate from encrypting a particular folder with third-party software; a folder-level encryption workflow is not required to use the T9’s built-in protection.

If Magician does not show the T9
- Check that the drive is connected and that your device can detect it.
- Confirm that the Magician release supports your operating system and that you installed the software from Samsung’s official support page.
- Do not infer that a TV, console, or other device that can use the SSD can also set or manage its password. Samsung’s listed platform compatibility covers Windows, macOS, and Android; it does not establish that every host device exposes Magician’s security controls.
Before relying on the password
Do not forget the password or assume Samsung can recover it. Samsung’s cited T9 materials do not establish what happens to stored data after a forgotten password or whether a reset preserves files. Keep a separate, secure record of the password and retain another copy of important data.
