How to Encode Marathi Song Videos for an OBS YouTube Playlist

A practical guide to playing Marathi song videos through an OBS playlist on YouTube Live, with YouTube’s recommended H.264 settings, playlist setup, testing, and rights checks.

For an OBS playlist streamed live to YouTube, encode the video with H.264 using CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to the output: YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps or 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These settings are not specific to Marathi; language does not change the video or audio encoding requirements. This guide covers playing local files in sequence through OBS. If you mean exporting one finished file to upload, use the separate upload settings below.

Prepare your playlist in OBS

  1. Choose the source files and output canvas. Use video files you have permission to broadcast. In OBS, set the canvas and output aspect ratio to match the material where possible, so the picture fills the frame without unnecessary stretching or cropping. Avoid upscaling smaller source files unless you have a specific reason.
  2. Add a playlist source. One option is OBS’s VLC Video Source, which supports playlists when VLC is installed and detected by OBS. If OBS does not offer that source, check that VLC is installed and restart OBS. A third-party OBS Media Playlist Source plugin is another option; its listing describes playlist editing and shuffle features and currently gives OBS 31 as its minimum version. Check the plugin author’s current listing and test compatibility with your installed version before relying on it for a long broadcast. OBS forum guidance on VLC playlists · Media Playlist Source listing
  3. Check playback behavior locally. Play through the sequence and verify the order, picture framing, audio, and whether it repeats as you intend. OBS may not stop the stream when a playlist ends, but that behavior comes from community guidance and may vary by version; verify it in your installation rather than assuming the playlist will loop or end in a particular way.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, choose YouTube as the streaming service and enter the supplied connection details in the stream settings. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Follow YouTube’s encoder-streaming setup guidance: YouTube: Set up your encoder for live streaming.

Set OBS encoding for a live stream

The following are YouTube’s H.264 live-ingest recommendations, not guaranteed quality settings for every source file or network. Choose a frame rate close to the video material and use an upload connection that can sustain the bitrate.

OBS output target YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate Keyframe interval
1080p, 30 fps 5 Mbps 2 seconds recommended
1080p, 60 fps 6 Mbps 2 seconds recommended

Use CBR (constant bitrate) for the live output and set the keyframe interval to two seconds. YouTube advises not to exceed four seconds. The figures above are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance, accessed in 2026; consult its current table if you target a different resolution, frame rate, or codec: YouTube live encoder settings.

Choose 30 or 60 fps

  • If your source is 30 fps, 1080p30 is a sensible starting point.
  • If the source is 60 fps, the motion benefits from that rate, and your upload connection has capacity, consider 1080p60.
  • Do not convert lower-frame-rate or lower-resolution material upward expecting more detail; the source still limits what the stream can show.

YouTube transcodes a live stream into viewing formats for different devices and network conditions, so viewers may not receive the same encoded input you send. YouTube describes this process in its live encoder guidance.

Leave upload-bandwidth headroom

YouTube recommends about 20% more available upload capacity than the stream bitrate. For a 5 Mbps stream, that implies at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream alone; this is arithmetic from YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a separate benchmark. Other household or office traffic needs additional capacity. YouTube’s streaming tips also emphasize reliable upload bandwidth and network conditions.

Test before broadcasting publicly

  1. Run a private or unlisted test with files that have similar motion and audio to the intended playlist.
  2. Confirm that OBS plays the files in the right order and that the transition or repeat behavior is the one you expect.
  3. Listen for clipping, silence, or audio-video sync problems, and inspect the OBS audio meters.
  4. Check YouTube’s stream health in Live Control Room while the test is running. If health warnings appear, lower the output bitrate or address the network issue before the public broadcast.
  5. Test again after changing the encoder, resolution, frame rate, playlist source, or network path.

Live-stream encoding is not upload-file encoding

If you are exporting one completed video to upload rather than sending an OBS live stream, do not copy the live bitrate into your export settings. YouTube’s upload guidance recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and VBR video. For audio it lists AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio, with a recommended 48 kHz sample rate. Its 1080p upload video recommendations are 8 Mbps at standard frame rates and 12 Mbps at high frame rates. These are upload-file recommendations, distinct from the CBR live-ingest settings above. See YouTube recommended upload encoding settings.

Check music rights before you go live

Marathi language or a song’s availability online does not establish permission to broadcast it. Verify that you have the necessary rights for each exact recording and composition, including any arrangement or performance in the file. YouTube may detect copyrighted material during a live stream; consequences can include interruption or other action under YouTube’s policies. The rights status of any particular song or recording cannot be determined without its details. Use YouTube’s copyright guidance and the copyright safety checklist before building the broadcast around music.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or change
VLC Video Source is missing in OBS VLC is not installed or OBS did not detect it. Install VLC, restart OBS, and check whether the source becomes available. If using a plugin instead, confirm its current OBS compatibility and installation instructions.
Stream health reports instability or viewers see buffering Upload capacity is insufficient or competing traffic is consuming it. Check available upload bandwidth, allow YouTube’s recommended headroom, reduce the stream bitrate if needed, and test on the same network.
Video looks stretched, cropped, or soft The source aspect ratio does not match the canvas, or output settings exceed the source. Match the canvas to the intended aspect ratio, inspect the source transform in OBS, and avoid unnecessary upscaling.
Playlist stops, fails to advance, or does not repeat as expected Playlist-source behavior differs by implementation or version. Test the exact OBS, VLC, or plugin versions locally. Do not assume a playlist ending will stop the stream or that edits will take effect during a broadcast.
Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync Source audio, OBS mixer levels, or the playback path may be misconfigured. Test the actual files, watch OBS meters, listen to a recorded or test output, and correct levels or sync before going live.
YouTube interrupts or restricts the broadcast A rights claim, policy issue, or stream configuration problem may be involved. Check Live Control Room notices and YouTube’s policy information. Confirm permission for the exact recording; changing encoding settings does not resolve a rights issue.
