YouTube does not specify a special bitrate or codec for Malayalam: speech clarity depends on the source audio and a clean, tested signal chain, not a language-specific encoder preset.
Set up the video loop in OBS
Loop one video file
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select Local File to choose the video.
- Enable Loop in the source properties. OBS says this restarts the file when playback completes; Loop is off by default.
- Consider Restart playback when source becomes active if the source may be deactivated and reactivated as scenes change. Check Show nothing when playback ends if you need to control what appears at the end of a non-looping source.
- Play the file and inspect both its opening and ending. Confirm the intended audio track is audible and that the loop boundary does not create an unwanted gap, black frame, or cut-off word.
OBS lists support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. Source format support alone does not guarantee that a particular file will play as intended, so preview the actual file in OBS. OBS Media Sources

Loop a playlist
For multiple files, add a VLC Video source, create its playlist, and use Loop Playlist to repeat it. OBS says this option is enabled by default. VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. A single Media Source is simpler when you have only one file; VLC Video adds playlist support and the VLC dependency. OBS Media Sources

Use the resolution and frame rate that suit the source and your connection rather than upscaling a low-resolution video for its own sake. YouTube’s published bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; the figures below are its H.264 recommendations, not a guarantee of image quality or speech intelligibility.

Pick a value your upload connection can sustain reliably, then check stream health during a test. Do not reuse H.264 bitrate figures blindly for HEVC or AV1; consult the corresponding codec column in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS ingest and recommends RTMPS. Its guidance calls for CBR, progressive scan, square pixels, Rec. 709 for SDR, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. It supports up to 60 fps.
Set the audio output
For standard stereo audio, YouTube supports AAC or MP3 and recommends 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps. Keep OBS’s output compatible with YouTube’s current guidance, then listen to the stream rather than assuming that compliant settings make the source speech clear. Encoder recommendations can change; consult YouTube’s live encoder page when configuring a long-running stream.

OBS provides controls for output resolution, frame rate, and audio and video bitrate. Its overview advises considering upload speed and service limits and testing the complete setup before going live; it generally recommends leaving defaults alone unless there is a reason to change them. Improve speech only when a filter addresses the problem
Apply filters to the audio source carrying the video’s sound, and compare the result with the unfiltered audio. The right choice depends on what you hear in the actual Malayalam recording. OBS documents Noise Suppression, Compressor, Expander, Gain, and Limiter; adding every filter by default can make speech worse. OBS Filters Guide

Steady, mild background noise: Noise Suppression
Use suppression for mild fan, room, or white noise—not as a general speech enhancer. OBS says suppression is generally ineffective in a very loud room. Its guide describes RNNoise as higher quality but more CPU-intensive than Speex; strong suppression, including Speex settings pushed too far, can distort the voice. Compare enabled and disabled playback on real speech before keeping the filter. OBS Noise Suppression Filter
Uneven speech level: Compressor
A compressor can reduce occasional loud peaks relative to ordinary speech; output gain can then bring the average level back up. OBS positions compression near the beginning of a filter chain. Adjust it by listening to the file instead of assuming default values are suitable. OBS Compressor Filter

Noise between phrases: Expander
An expander can reduce low-level background sound between phrases. Set its threshold carefully: OBS warns that an overly aggressive setting can cut off speech. OBS places an expander after compression or other effects but before the limiter. OBS Expander Filter
Peaks that clip: Limiter
A limiter constrains peaks to help prevent clipping and distortion. OBS says to put it last in the filter chain. Check that it controls peaks without making the speech unnaturally quiet. OBS Limiter Filter

If speech in the original file is already muffled, distorted, clipped, or masked, these filters do not establish that lost intelligibility can be restored. Inspect or re-render the source audio instead of applying stronger suppression blindly.

- Play a representative spoken passage and the end-to-start transition in OBS. Confirm the intended source audio is audible and is not doubled by unintended desktop audio.
- Record locally or run a test stream with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring stream health.
- Listen on headphones and a phone or small speaker for intelligibility. Watch OBS’s audio meters for peaks and check for clipping, unnatural level changes, or sync problems.
- Verify that the video returns to the beginning as expected and that the transition does not insert a gap or cut off speech.
- Check YouTube stream health and confirm the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. If it cannot, lower the bitrate or output demands and test again.
Troubleshoot common problems
