How to Enable Wi-Fi Calling on a Tracfone Phone

Enable Wi-Fi Calling from your phone’s Settings, complete Tracfone’s emergency-address prompt, and check device and SIM eligibility if the option is missing.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To enable Wi-Fi Calling on a Tracfone phone, connect to Wi-Fi, search your phone’s Settings for “Wi-Fi Calling,” turn it on, and complete any carrier prompts—including entering your primary Wi-Fi address for emergency calling. The feature may require both a compatible phone and a Wi-Fi Calling-enabled SIM or line, so check eligibility with Tracfone for your exact device.

Before you turn on Wi-Fi Calling

Check that your specific phone supports Wi-Fi Calling and that your Tracfone SIM or line is enabled for it. Tracfone’s terms say availability can depend on both the phone and SIM; a compatible handset alone may not be enough. Contact Tracfone to verify your device and line.

Connect the phone to a Wi-Fi network with working internet access. Wi-Fi Calling carries calls and texts over Wi-Fi, and connection quality can affect service. Verizon’s general guidance describes these dependencies, but your Tracfone eligibility and settings should be confirmed with Tracfone.

Turn on Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi. In your phone’s Settings, connect to a network and confirm it can access the internet.
  2. Find the control. Open Settings and search for “Wi-Fi Calling.” Menu paths vary by phone and operating system. On many Android devices, the option is in call settings; on iPhone, look for the Wi-Fi Calling control in Settings. See Verizon’s general Wi-Fi Calling overview for additional device guidance.
  3. Switch it on. Enable Wi-Fi Calling and follow any carrier prompts or terms displayed on the phone.
  4. Enter your primary Wi-Fi address. Provide the address requested for emergency-call routing. Tracfone’s terms state, “If you do not give us your Primary Address, we will block your ability to use Wi-Fi calling.”
  5. Check that it is active. Phone labels and status indicators differ. If you cannot tell whether a call is using Wi-Fi Calling, consult the guidance for your specific phone; Verizon’s support overview includes device-specific information.

Why the Wi-Fi Calling option may be missing

  • The phone may not support it. Compatibility is device-specific; the available information does not establish a universal Tracfone-compatible model list.
  • The SIM or line may not be enabled. Tracfone’s terms identify an enabled SIM as a possible requirement. Ask Tracfone to check the exact line.
  • The setting may be elsewhere. Search Settings for “Wi-Fi Calling” rather than relying on a single menu path; Android and iPhone menus differ, and paths can vary by device.

If activation or calls do not work

  1. Confirm with Tracfone that both the phone and SIM or line are eligible.
  2. Check that the Wi-Fi connection has internet access. Reconnect to the network or restart the phone, then try again.
  3. Review the emergency address prompt. Make sure the primary address is entered and accepted.
  4. If the setting appears enabled but calls are unreliable, check the Wi-Fi signal and internet connection. Verizon suggests asking your internet provider about a Wi-Fi extender when poor coverage is the problem; an extender is optional and is not a Tracfone activation requirement.
  5. If the feature still will not activate, contact Tracfone to check provisioning for your device and line.

Keep the emergency address current

Tracfone requires the primary address where Wi-Fi is used for Wi-Fi 911 routing. If that primary location changes, update the address online or contact Customer Care. Tracfone’s terms say an update may take 24 hours or more; the publication year for that estimate is not stated.

When you call 911 away from the registered address, the carrier may not know your actual location. Be ready to tell emergency responders where you are. Wi-Fi 911 also depends on internet access and may be limited or unavailable during power, internet, or wireless-service interruptions, congestion, delays in address availability, or technical problems. Wi-Fi Calling should not be treated as a guarantee that an emergency call will connect.
