Turn on Wi-Fi Calling in your phone’s settings, then register or confirm your emergency address if prompted. The setting appears only when your phone, carrier, and country or region support the feature, so the menu and availability can vary.
What Wi-Fi Calling does
Wi-Fi Calling lets your phone place ordinary carrier calls over a Wi-Fi connection when the feature is supported and enabled. You use the phone’s usual calling function; a separate calling app is not required. Availability depends on your carrier, device, and location. Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

These are Apple’s instructions for iOS 26; menu labels can differ in other software versions. When Wi-Fi Calling is active, “Wi-Fi” appears beside the carrier name in the status bar. If Wi-Fi drops during a call, an iPhone may move it to the carrier’s cellular network using VoLTE when that feature is available and enabled; a handoff is not guaranteed for every phone or carrier. This is Google’s documented path; manufacturers and Android versions may use different menu names or layouts. Once enabled, place calls through the normal phone interface. The call screen may identify a call as “Internet Call” or “Wi-Fi calling.” Google Phone app Help
Why the Wi-Fi Calling option may be missing
A missing setting usually means the feature is not available for that combination of phone, carrier, and country or region, or that the carrier has not provisioned it for your line. Google notes, “Not all carriers support calls over Wi-Fi.” Check your carrier’s eligibility and activation requirements before treating the missing toggle as a phone fault. If the option is present but Wi-Fi Calling will not activate or stops working, restart the phone. If that does not resolve it, contact the carrier and ask whether Wi-Fi Calling is supported and active on your line. Google notes that a phone may disable the feature when it detects a problem. Register an accurate emergency address
Carriers may ask for an emergency-services address because it can help route emergency calls placed over Wi-Fi. For example, Verizon says it collects a U.S. address for 911 support, and T-Mobile asks for an E911 registered address when Wi-Fi Calling is first enabled. Keep the address current with your carrier, particularly if you move. An address prompt is an emergency-routing measure; it does not mean the service can always determine your precise location. Know the limits for emergency calls and travel
Apple says emergency calls use cellular service when it is available. If cellular service is unavailable and Wi-Fi Calling is enabled, an emergency call may be placed over Wi-Fi. Location information from the device may help responders, but the carrier may rely on the address registered to the account. Apple warns that an inaccurate address may prevent correct emergency routing and says Wi-Fi Calling should be a last resort when traditional cellular or fixed-line service is available. Do not assume Wi-Fi Calling is free, works with every destination, or has the same terms abroad as at home. Charges, international use, supported destinations, and availability depend on the provider and location. What to check before relying on it

Whether your carrier supports Wi-Fi Calling for your exact phone, line, and country or region.

What happens if Wi-Fi disconnects during a call; transfer to cellular service depends on the device, carrier, and enabled features.
The official setup guidance does not establish a universal Wi-Fi speed, router specification, or reliability threshold for Wi-Fi Calling. Follow your carrier’s requirements for your service rather than assuming a particular network specification applies everywhere.
