To enable Super Chat, open YouTube Studio → Earn → Supers, select Get started if it appears, complete the prompts, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if asked, and switch on Super Chat. Your channel must be eligible, and the individual live stream must meet YouTube’s requirements. YouTube’s instructions do not describe a separate activation process for 24/7 streams.
Check whether your channel is eligible
The Supers tab appears only for eligible channels. YouTube’s baseline requirements for fan-funding features include being in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), being at least 18, and being in a location where Super Chat is available. You must also accept and comply with the applicable terms, including the CPM where prompted. YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility guidance lists the relevant requirements and restrictions.
YouTube’s expanded YPP entry thresholds include 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the preceding 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the preceding 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Super Chat is listed among the features available at that tier, but YouTube notes that individual features can have additional eligibility requirements. Check YouTube’s current Partner Program page for the requirements that apply to your channel and location.
Turn on Super Chat in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio using the channel account.
- From the left menu, open Earn, then select Supers.
- If offered, select Get started and complete the on-screen prompts.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if YouTube asks you to do so.
- Switch on Super Chat and finish any remaining prompts.
The control is channel-level; YouTube’s setup instructions do not specify a different switch or activation flow for a continuous broadcast. If you cannot see the Supers tab or the Super Chat control, check channel eligibility and the stream-specific restrictions below before troubleshooting your broadcast setup.

Make sure the individual 24/7 stream can use Super Chat
Enabling Super Chat for the channel does not make it available on every live video. YouTube says Super Chat is unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. Live chat and comments must not be turned off. See YouTube’s feature and video restrictions.
- Set the broadcast’s visibility to Public if you want viewers to find and use Supers on it.
- Do not mark the video Made for Kids unless that is the correct audience setting for its content.
- Keep live chat enabled while the stream is running.
- Check that the stream has not been age-restricted and is not a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
Do not change audience or age settings simply to unlock monetization; choose settings that accurately reflect the stream and follow YouTube’s policies.

Start the continuous broadcast separately
Super Chat activation and stream delivery are separate tasks. YouTube supports several ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, console, and encoder-based streaming. Encoder hardware is one possible broadcast method, not a requirement for switching on Super Chat in Studio. For an encoder stream, create or schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream URL and stream key, then start sending the broadcast. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current workflow.
Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed. A 24/7 stream can also outlast YouTube’s replay capture window. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, make a separate recording and plan for the archive limitation; see YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Understand the creator share from Supers
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. That share is calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees; YouTube says it currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. The stated percentage is not a guarantee of a particular payout, since the amount confirmed and applicable deductions affect the result. Details are in YouTube’s Supers guidance.
Troubleshoot missing Supers or unavailable Super Chat
- No Supers tab: Check YPP membership, age, supported location, and whether the required terms have been accepted. The tab appears only when the channel is eligible.
- Supers tab appears, but Super Chat is off: Open YouTube Studio → Earn → Supers, complete any outstanding setup prompts, and confirm the switch is on.
- Super Chat is unavailable on one broadcast: Check that it is not private, unlisted, age-restricted, Made for Kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser, and that live chat and comments are enabled.
- The stream is live but has no chat: Review the live event’s chat settings in Studio. Super Chat depends on live chat remaining available.
- The stream ends or its replay is missing: The Super Chat setting does not control stream continuity or archive capture. Review the encoder or chosen broadcast method separately, and keep a separate recording if the uninterrupted stream’s replay matters.
