Update a game confirmed to support QSSR, then look in that game’s graphics or display options. Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games to receive QSSR patches on October 1, 2026; it has not published one menu path or confirmed that QSSR is on by default in either title.
How to check for QSSR and try it in a game
- Update the game. On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game, press the options button, and select Check for Update. Install any available update from the on-screen prompt. Sony says QSSR was added to its first named games through patches, so an older build may not show the option. See Sony’s instructions for updating PS5 games and apps.
- Check the game’s settings. Launch the game and look in its graphics or display options for QSSR. Sony describes QSSR as an additional graphics option, but has not published a universal in-game menu path or exact menu labels for the two initial titles.
- Confirm the game is supported. An up-to-date game or a graphics menu by itself does not establish QSSR support. Check the game’s official patch notes or an announcement from its developer or publisher. Sony’s confirmed initial titles are listed below.
A PS5 system software update is separate from the game patch. If the console needs one, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software, following Sony’s system software instructions. Sony says the first QSSR games were patched; updating the console is not a substitute for updating the game.

This is the initial list Sony announced on October 1, 2026, not a claim that only these games will support QSSR. Sony says it will offer QSSR broadly to PlayStation developers, but its announcement gives no schedule or list of additional titles. Check official patch notes for current compatibility. What QSSR does—and what Sony has not measured
QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as a new performance tier of AI upscaling for PS5, developed from Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony says it uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation intended to maximize performance on PS5, and that it can improve image detail and stability.

Sony’s announcement does not provide resolution or frame-rate figures, benchmark results, or a measured visual-quality trade-off. The developers’ comments are descriptions, not independent performance tests. Insomniac Games’ Head of Technology Mike Fitzgerald said QSSR brings extra pixel-level clarity and stability to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Sucker Punch Productions’ Lead Rendering Engineer Jasmin Patry said QSSR lets players experience Ghost of Yōtei with more clarity and detail. Sony published both comments with its announcement.

Do not look for the PS5 Pro’s Enhance PSSR Image Quality system toggle to enable QSSR on a standard PS5. Sony documents that PSSR control for certain compatible games and says it is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. QSSR, by contrast, is described as a graphics option added to supported games through patches. See Sony’s PS5 resolution guide and QSSR announcement.
