Sony says Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei were the first games to add it through patches. QSSR is an in-game graphics option, not a universal PS5 system setting.
How to change the QSSR option
- Install the latest update for a game confirmed to support QSSR.
- Launch the game and open its graphics options.
- Look for QSSR and select the state you want if the game provides an on/off control.
Sony’s announcement confirms that patches add QSSR as an additional graphics option, but does not give an exact submenu path, the toggle’s displayed label, or its default state. Those details may vary by game or patch, so use the current in-game interface rather than following a presumed console-wide setting. Sony’s English announcement and Japanese edition confirm the feature is offered through game graphics settings.

Which PS5 games support QSSR?
Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games to use the QSSR library. In its October 1, 2026 announcement, Sony said both were being patched that day to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Sony says the technology will be offered broadly to PlayStation developers, but that announcement does not identify additional released games. Check a game’s update notes or graphics menu for current support.
What QSSR does—and how it differs from PSSR
QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI-upscaling tier derived from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), developed through Project Amethyst, Sony’s AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony says QSSR uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation for PS5, and is designed to improve image detail and stability.
#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
Keep the platform names straight: Sony presents QSSR as the option for supported PS5 games, while PSSR remains its higher-tier offering on PS5 Pro. QSSR is not a replacement for a system-level PS5 setting, and PS5 Pro’s PSSR controls do not establish where to find it in a PS5 game.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to expect from image quality and performance
Sony’s announcement makes qualitative image-quality claims, not quantified performance claims. It does not report a frame-rate impact, latency figure, image-quality score, or measured comparison with QSSR enabled and disabled. That means the announcement alone cannot establish whether enabling it is best for every player or whether it carries a performance cost.

Developers praised the visual results in Sony’s announcement: Insomniac Games’ Head of Technology Mike Fitzgerald said QSSR adds pixel-level clarity and stability to Marvel’s Wolverine, while Sucker Punch Productions’ Lead Rendering Engineer Jasmin Patry said it brings greater clarity and detail to Ghost of Yōtei. These are developer statements published by Sony, not independent benchmark results.
